A difficult weekend | Callie Golden

Callie has had a rough weekend. What started as extreme fatigue late last week seems to have turned into aspiration pneumonia. We’re thankful to have good guidance from Callie’s doctors and nurses, access to medicine and medical equipment and the support of friends and family. We’re back home. Callie and “Foxy,” her favorite stuffed animal, before heading home. Thankfully, Callie had a good night and we were able to come home this afternoon. It’s a big relief since she never stopped asking for her brothers. She is, however, not very happy about having 8 missing front teeth. She says she looks like a vampire which isn’t entirely untrue. Callie was born Feb. 5, 2009, our fourth baby and our only girl. Even our youngest son, who was 15 months old, doted on our new arrival. Within two weeks of her birth, we noticed Callie wasn’t eating properly. She would suck her bottle, but would take over an hour to get half an ounce of milk. Yesterday, we celebrated Callie’s sixth birthday. She took mini-cupcakes to school and for dinner, Zaxby’s was her restaurant of choice. Callie turned 7 years old today. Zaxby’s was her choice for dinner, followed by a strawberry cake with a snowman on top. We’re glad to have reached this milestone. With each birthday comes an awareness that it could be her last. We feel that very acutely this year. We’ve seen some recent changes in Callie’s overall strength and fatigue levels, and her last illness was the most severe we’ve seen in years. Happy Birthday to our one and only girl-baby. Thursday, July 8, 2010. 6 months of updates. And I recycled some of her decorations from last year. She said "ding ding" like we didn't know what a bell sounded like. Lee tried to hold it together, but he was laughing so hard. The funny things kids say. One big thing going on is that we are expecting baby #2. We are excited that God has blessed us with another child to raise for Him. We are due on New Years Eve. God does have a sense of humor, doesn't He? Since that's such a slow time of year and all!
