Ben Porter Wildlife Photography: February 2015
http://benporterphotography.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2015. Travels in Ecuador- a brief trip report. Situated an hour or so away from Quito at 3360 metres altitude, this is a spectacular 1240-hectare reserve which contains a mixture of Upper Montane Cloud Forest, Temperate and Polylepis forest vegetating the sides of steep mountainous ridges. It is a spectacular place when the foggy clouds do not totally engulf the scenery, and away from the rocky peaks and damp valleys are also some areas of Paramo grassland. And both the Tawny. Full ...

Ben Porter Wildlife Photography: April 2015
http://benporterphotography.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 26 April 2015. Although the species is handsome enough as it is, they undergo a pretty phenomenal migration, being said to be the largest of any passerine. For now I shall outline the migration of the Greenland-race Wheatear, as it is far more impressive than our British birds. Oenanthe oenanthe leucorhoa. As the Greenland Wheatear is Scientifically named, breeds in the Arctic tundra. In Africa, depending on where they breed in the tundra:. Arriving in Western and Central Africa in about November...

Sunday, 16 August 2015. New Moon moth trapping. Yesterday was one of the busiest days for trapping, with just under 400 moths in the withies trap and about 250 in the Nant trap. Ben Porter Wildlife Photography: January 2015
http://benporterphotography.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 27 January 2015. Ecuador- an update on travels. I recently spent three days travelling to some local birding sites around the foothills of the Andes with a great guide called Nelson. We used a mixture of public transport and hitch-hiking to get to three main birding sites, mainly that of Milpe, Rio Silanche and Mashpi. These three areas are of differing habitats and elevations, which allowed us to see over 200 species during the three days. Near-endemic species like Choco Toucan. And lots of Whi...

Ben Porter Wildlife Photography: November 2014
http://benporterphotography.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 30 November 2014. For about two weeks now, a small Grey Seal pup has taken up residence on Solfach. Usually, Grey Seals don't stay long on this beach, because it tends to get quite a lot of disturbance. At this time of year, however, there are almost no people on the island, besides ourselves. A couple of my favourite close-ups (more further down). Back-lighting with the setting sun works really well with seals, and especially with tame pups such as this one. A selection of extreme close-ups:.

Ben Porter Wildlife Photography: July 2015
http://benporterphotography.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, 26 July 2015. Corsica 2015 part 2 - Invertebrates. Them all, but I have done my best to include as many as I can in the following write-up, which follows a systematic list style. I hope you enjoy. A selection of insects. I didn't manage to get any positive IDs on a lot of the grasshoppers we saw, but there were some pretty cool ones with very colourful hindwings, giving a burst of colour when disturbed. Any help with this one appreciated! Ascalaphid - Libelloides longicornis. Our walk along the s...
