A Cambria Slice of Life: October 2007
http://cambriasliceoflife.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
A Cambria Slice of Life. Kathe Tanner is an award-winning reporter for The Tribune and The Cambrian. She also has written a column for The Cambrian since 1981. Wednesday, October 24, 2007. BEST OF: After a fire. A longer version of this column first ran in a special section in the San Luis Obispo Telegram Tribune in July, 1994, following the Highway 41 fire and three months after Kathe and Richard Tanner's home burned to the ground. An open letter to fire victims from someone who’s been there. And itR...

A Cambria Slice of Life. Kathe Tanner is an award-winning reporter for The Tribune and The Cambrian. She also has written a column for The Cambrian since 1981. Friday, May 23, 2008. BEST OF: Fry attack. Most of us at least make a stab or two at trying to eat correctly, doing our low-cal, low-fat, high-exercise penance for past indiscretions. But sometimes, after an angelic breakfast of orange juice and cereal with fat-free milk or yogurt, I’ll get a major munchie attack about half-past lunch. Recently, I...

A Cambria Slice of Life. Kathe Tanner is an award-winning reporter for The Tribune and The Cambrian. She also has written a column for The Cambrian since 1981. Friday, March 28, 2008. BEST OF: We don't fight. Really. When Husband Richard and I owned the bakery, lo all those years ago, another husband-and-wife team who worked with us asked a question. The two, who had spent years in the bakery industry, clearly were embarrassed to ask. And that's true in more ways than the obvious. According to the U....

A Cambria Slice of Life. Kathe Tanner is an award-winning reporter for The Tribune and The Cambrian. She also has written a column for The Cambrian since 1981. Friday, September 5, 2008. Politics on a gurney. There I was, flat on my back on a gurney at the doctor’s office, talking politics. It felt really strange, as if I’d walked into the wrong movie and couldn’t read the subtitles. 8220;Every year is interesting in Cambria,” I said. As he examined my aching limb, the doctor asked me for my thoughts on ...
A Cambria Slice of Life: Try a little kindness

A Cambria Slice of Life. Kathe Tanner is an award-winning reporter for The Tribune and The Cambrian. She also has written a column for The Cambrian since 1981. Saturday, August 9, 2008. Try a little kindness. It was just a little thing- a shiny piece of heavy paper folded to about 2 inches square and sporting a perky photo of an otter. Under the sea mammal's mug shot is some golden cursive writing that reads "Cambria, CA.". Being a good little bookmark, it won't fall out and lose my place in the process.

Cal Poly Sports Blog: December 2007
http://calpolysportsblog.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 29, 2007. Liddell finishes '07 on winning note. Maybe Cal Poly's basketball fans should have stayed home and watched the fight tonight. While the Mustangs men's basketball team lost at home to 2-10 Southern Utah, former Cal Poly wrestler and mixed martial arts star Chuck Liddell ended his year in style. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak by the former Mustang, who still lives and trains in San Luis Obispo. Silva recovered and came out strong in the second before a cut above his ...

Cal Poly Sports Blog: 4 wins + 4 days = Big Dance
http://calpolysportsblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/4-wins-4-days-big-dance.html
Tuesday, March 11, 2008. 4 wins 4 days = Big Dance. The sixth-seeded Cal Poly men’s basketball team (12-17, 7-9) will try to pull off the unthinkable this week, winning four games in four days to advance to its first NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs open the tournament Wednesday night against seventh-seeded UC Riverside (8-20, 4-12) in the first round at the Anaheim Convention Center. But hey, a sixth seed has won this thing before. Don’t believe it? Posted by Brian Milne. On the flip side, Cal Poly fans pr...

Cal Poly Sports Blog: It 'wasn’t a pretty game to watch'
http://calpolysportsblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/it-wasnt-pretty-game-to-watch.html
Thursday, March 13, 2008. It 'wasn’t a pretty game to watch'. Finally, it’s over. Instead of this prolonging a season filled with putrid shooting performances – from the arc, from the paint and from the line – the Cal Poly men’s basketball team made an early exit from the Big West Tournament on Wednesday. It was the only upset of the day. UC Riverside head coach Jim Woolridge probably put it best, saying it “wasn’t a pretty game to watch.”. No it wasn’t. What SoCal basketball fans missed was Cal PolyR...

Thursday, May 31, 2007. Liddell beats "Rampage" at the bank. Former Cal Poly wrestler and SLO-based ultimate fighter Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell might have lost to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson inside the Octagon on Saturday, but he beat him at the bank. According to figures released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday, Liddell took home $500,000 in the loss to Jackson at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. And that figure does not include pay-per-view earnings or endorsements. Posted by Brian Milne.

High School Sports Blog: CIF State Track: The Video
http://slocohighschoolsportsblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/cif-state-track-video.html
Wednesday, June 04, 2008. CIF State Track: The Video. After reviewing the raw footage I took at this past weekend's track meet, I decided most of it was pretty boring. So instead of posting it all, I spruced it up with some music and production value. I also took this nice photo of Tonie Williams standing with her CIF State medal (She placed sixth in the 400). Enjoy! 2008 CIF Track and Field Championships. Posted by Joshua D. Scroggin. I liked the picture in the paper better! CIF State Track: The Video -.

Tuesday, June 24, 2008. SLO High baseball trio get scholarships. Word from the "Bloggin' with." pipeline is that San Luis Obispo High seniors Darren Mullen, Dan Howell and Robby Nadalsky have all inked letters of intent to play baseball at NCAA Division I schools next year. Mullen, the PAC 7 MVP and single-season Tigers record-holder for RBI, seemed resigned to attend either Palomar or Cuesta College next year. Not so, in the end. Three guys from one team signing with D-I schools? Links to this post.

High School Sports Blog: December 2007

Tuesday, December 11, 2007. It's become clear to me the past few months how powerful the typed word can be around here. It seems like every other week there's a prep sports team feeling overlooked or undervalued in the public sphere. Such and such team was not featured in The Tribune this week! How dare that Scroggin? I've come to terms with the sentiment. It's a fact of life that every team in every sport cannot be mentioned in every story. And since The Tribune's coverage already produces so much bulle...

Saturday, March 15, 2008. The Mission Prep girls basketball team fell 51-39 to Ross Branson in the Division V State Championship game at Arco Arena in Sacramento on Saturday morning. As I sit here typing this, the Branson boys are beating Renaissance Academy 38-31 and are looking to make the Bulls a double winner for the second year in a row. The Branson girls were amazing. They were tall, athletic, fast. It was a tough game for the Royals, who were down by 19 at one point in the third quarter. What do y...

High School Sports Blog: November 2007

Friday, November 30, 2007. Nope, I haven't spoken with the former Paso Robles High basketball phenom in a while, but a reporter at the Lexington Herald-Leader recently did a story on a recent surgery that's kept him off the court for Kentucky. You can read it here. Preseason reports had Jasper working on his outside shot and primed for a breakout season this year. It seemed as though coming back from microfracture surgery in the offseason was more like an afterthought. Posted by Joshua D. Scroggin. You a...

High School Sports Blog: Leftovers from the year in sports
http://slocohighschoolsportsblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/leftovers-from-year-in-sports.html
Monday, July 07, 2008. Leftovers from the year in sports. Since I'm going to be shifting over to another blog on another beat, I thought I'd empty my cache on this one. The past year has brought some great behind the scenes sights and sounds. Here are a couple I didn't share from San Luis Obispo High. Going all the way back to football season, here's a shot of linebacker Nate Egan and his smashed up nose. I remember writing about it in a story, but the photo was kept hidden. until now! I 2nd that. A Cambria Slice of Life. Kathe Tanner is an award-winning reporter for The Tribune and The Cambrian. She also has written a column for The Cambrian since 1981. Thursday, September 25, 2008. BEST OF: Small world at a rest stop. Sometimes, by keeping open minds in unlikely spots, we can learn what a small world it really is. The view doesn’t vary much along most of the way, only from brown back to green when the weather morphs from sizzling hot and dry to doggone cold, windy and rainy. This time, as we str...
