Wednesday, 30 November 2011. Occupy Books. Do We Want Our Books on Prescription? This week I found out that a high street bookseller who always stocks our latest books can’t take any books released by us this season. They want to stock the books and have asked me to come back after Christmas, when they will be able to stock them. But I didn’t realise books that the shop managers would like to stock are turned away completely over Christmas because they haven’t been ‘prescribed’ wi...This doesn’t ju...

Adele Ward the poet at the bus stop: Poetry Publishing. Is Nobody Making an Income?
http://adeleward.blogspot.com/2013/06/poetry-publishing-is-nobody-making.html
Saturday, 1 June 2013. Poetry Publishing. Is Nobody Making an Income? One thing I'm most proud of at Ward Wood Publishing. I have heard that some poets don't have a contract from their publisher, and they get no royalties. I do feel there should be a contract for various legal protections, but I can understand publishers perhaps taking the approach that royalties are paid on net income rather than gross income, and this would lead to no royalties once costs are taken out. Poetry book sales in the lower h...

Wednesday, 5 December 2012. Going Viral on Amazon. Some Hope. This time last year we invested money in hiring a PR company for Ward Wood. I really didn't expect the giveaway to lead to better results than the PR agency, but it wasn't hard perhaps. In just 5 days the book has got to 14th position in the literary fiction ranking. Run by Nic Treadwell after he downloaded the book, and he has also asked to broadcast another Ward Wood author VG Lee. Feedback from others during the giveaway made me realise the...
Adele Ward the poet at the bus stop: October 2011
http://adeleward.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 October 2011. Dear Publisher: Is it worth investing in an author website? My feeling is that a blog is more useful to authors than a website. It's also a good idea to set a day of the week when you commit to writing a blog post so that it's regular. With a blog you can post a link on Facebook and other places, and people can interact with you. Seeing how you write on the blog also gives them an indication about whether or not they might like your writing style and empathise with your ideas.
