This was the door to our room, The Billy Jones Room. The artwork all around the hotel pays tribute to the former residents. On our wall was this description of Billy. More of the art in our room. A more accurate painting of Billy Jones in our room. There was a pool hall down in the basement. We saw a few deer.

With the sale of Gail's mom's home complete, we lost no time in taking to the desert. We drove to the Anza Borrego Desert early Sunday morning to revisit Bighorn Canyon. We drove a ways on a jeep road until the sand became too soft to go further. This is where we car camped. She also took these photos of a blooming cholla. The agave bloo...

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe - John Muir. Friday, August 28, 2015. Gas and Steam Engine Museum. Yesterday, I spent a couple hours wandering around the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum in nearby Vista. There are numerous buildings and sheds rambling over the 55 acres, including a blacksmith shop, a weavers building, model railroad building, stage, and grass area. The following are random pictures of things that interested me. There we...

This weekend, we went for an overnight camp out in the Anza-Borrego Desert, specifically our little corner of the desert, Pinyon Wash. We love the solitude and wildness out there. Back lit cholla is beautiful, but those hairy needles seem to jump out at you if you get too close. Evening glow and long shadows.

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe - John Muir. Wednesday, June 25, 2014. We had a rather music and art filled weekend. Below are some of the high lights of the past few days. Saturday night we went to our Carlsbad Museum of Making Music for a concert by Otis Taylor, blues musician, who plays banjo and electric guitar. The library appears like The Starship Enterprise, perched on a knoll. The major never flinched as he spun and threw his baton.

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe - John Muir. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Don't We Have Fun! Gail and Susanna are really hitting it off these days! Both are nuts about dress-up and wacky fashion! On today's hike at Calavera Hills, I came upon this beautiful San Diego Gopher Snake near the top of the peak. I estimate its length at about 5 feet - nice sized! Hope you find that mate you're probably searching for! Monday, May 18, 2015. The bees were ...

This final installment covers Thursday through the following Wednesday. Thursday morning, we woke to a dusting of snow and temperatures in the low 20's - quite a change from the T-shirt weather we had Monday and Tuesday! Just inside the park we stopped to watch a bull elk and his harem. A pretty, late bloomer that Gail photographed. There were...

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe - John Muir. Thursday, August 28, 2014. What first looked like several bird poops on our potted orange tree leaves turned out to be something alive and amazing. They are actually caterpillars of the beautiful giant swallowtail butterfly! Sunday, Andria and the kids came up for a few hours of play. The kids never tire of this big old plastic pool. Come to think of it, Gail and I don't either. Sunday, Paul, Su...
