Frankie the Balloon Artist. The New Greensboro Voice. Blessing of the Animals. I took photos and reported for this photo gallery on wtop.com. Pet owners brought their pets to the National Cathedral Sunday for the annual blessing of animals, which honors the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. For this project I wanted to capture emotion, follow one person and try to capture action. This man was attending the record exhibit at the Nasher Museum of Art.

Frankie the Balloon Artist. The New Greensboro Voice. October 16, 2013. CNS: Becoming a cartographer. I created this interactive map using TileMill. To show locations of bird-friendly coffee farms. TileMill is an application you download to your computer and use to code maps with many styles and zoom levels. The application uses a mixture of HTML, CSS and its own CartoCSS. This was my first time using the program, and there was a slight learning curve, but I’m excited to use it again. Laquo; Previous post.

Frankie the Balloon Artist. The New Greensboro Voice. July 15, 2013. This past week at The Gazette I experienced a case of real-world journalism ethics in my reporting. This week I had a great interview with a source on Thursday. The source was very kind and offered to buy me Chinese food for lunch during the interview. Frankie the Balloon Artist. The New Greensboro Voice. For this project, I wanted to capture depth. I shot several angles of the train tracks in order to achieve depth in my pictures. The receding planks of wood, metal pieces and rails add to the perspective of depth in these pictures. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).
