Chapter 2 of Camp Sabael, Its Story. It appears that the principal organizer of the group was R. C. Coleman. Coleman had visited Indian Lake and its environs for a number of years prior to the meeting and was familiar with the area. In early 1888 he began corresponding with Willard Locke, a local resident of the area, about finding a good site for a camp for himself and his friends on the lake. On April 7, 1888, Hosea G. Locke wrote the following letter to R. C. Coleman:. With kind regards to all I remain.
