Link to Pennsylvania Archaeology. They constructed a rectangular camp there, but the war came to Virginia and Continental Congress to the north, to Fort Frederick, in western Maryland. The march northward began in October 1780 to Winchester, Virginia, and then Fort Frederick.

Historic York, Inc. and Springettsbury Township with the funding and assistance of the PA Historical and Museum Commission PHMC) conduct a small excavation on the eastern portion of the farm. Proves to be part of Camp Security. Development does not proceed, and the township proposes to buy the land for a park. First draft of a new development plan completed by engineer. November 18, 1999.

Link to Pennsylvania Archaeology. The land was returned to farming, but Gibson, writing in 1886, stated Some of the lumber of the fence and stones of the huts yet remain. George Prowell, writing in 1907, states this historic spot, though very rugged, has been farmed over, so that unless that it is marked, the exact site will be known to future generations only by tradition.

Camp Security is the last remaining undeveloped prisoner-of-war camp from the Revolutionary War. One of only a handful to ever be established, it is located just east of the City of York in Springettsbury Township. Camp Security housed over one-thousand British and Canadian prisoners of war between the summer of 1781 and the spring of 1783.
