Offensive and Defensive IT Security. Archive for the ‘Uncategorized’ Category. Ranting at the youth. Since graduating back in 2006 I’ve been honoured by Northumbria University by being asked to return and speak with their students with the hindsight of having spent time out in industry, I covered my last trip here. After I’d already agreed. – Think I nearly fainted at that point. Though I doubt it’s particularly useful as the slides were more memory jogs for me, than actually useful information. The reac...

Offensive and Defensive IT Security. Archive for the ‘InfoSec’ Category. Google Glass: New threat or business as usual? Woke this morning to find several articles covering the release of a short script. Designed to locate and ultimately block wearers of Google Glass from accessing a wireless network. This was apparently released in response to someone else’s discomfort from knowing there was a wearer of Google Glass in an audience, mostly due to the recording/stream capabilities. Why is this news worthy?

Feb 3, 2013. In my 2012 redux. I said that this year will be different from 2012. Now that it’s been organised, agreed on and shared with my team I can finally let the cat out of the bag! I’m going to spend less time at work this year so that I can spend more time on the projects and activities I have a personal passion for. Sentinel – watching over your websites. Feb 8, 2014. Excited, nervous, frantic, happy. There’s a story in scripture that used to confused me. If you’re not a christian you may still have heard it – it’s the time Peter steps out of the fishing boat he’s in and walks across the rough waters towards Jesus. Only to sink and be pulled out of the water. I used to think Peter was foolish twice over – one for asking a ‘ghost’ to give him this miraculous ability and secondly for losing faith even while he was walking on water! I will of be updating twi...

Offensive and Defensive IT Security. The reaction most people have when you point out people are naive enough to post pictures of credit and debit cards online is to laugh, surely no one could be that unaware of the risks. But the fact is that the situation has become that common place that a number of Twitter accounts have been set-up to automatically identify and repost the images. Some, like @CancelThatCard. Yes, people do post their cards online…. In the above example, which is far from uncommon, whe...
