Carrie's Urban Farm: May 2010
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Who is smarter, humans or chickens? I'm thrilled to report that the ladies have put themselves to bed TWO nights in a row! Such a relief that they are behaving like proper chickens! I don't know who deserves the credit though. Me, for ditching the ramp in favor of a perch and platform along the front of the henhouse (and the husband for building it), thereby successfully suckering the chickens into toeing the line, or. Carrie's Urban Farm: December 2010
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Saturday, December 18, 2010. Jeff also rigged up a wire contraption to turn their waterer into a hanging. Waterer. We'd previously had the waterer propped up on a stack of paver bricks, under the "landing" to their henhouse. It was the only place we could put the waterer where they couldn't fly up and perch on it. Trouble is, the little gremlins are constantly working on digging a tunnel to China, and their excavation work was often right next to. Links to this post.

Carrie's Urban Farm: May 2011
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Monday, May 30, 2011. Clean as a whistle! I'll tell you what.chickens can strip corn cobs and watermelon rinds like nobody's business. Good times for the chickens.and for the humans that watch them. Who needs the zoo? Good news about Coco.I broke her of her broodiness! In the meantime, we amuse ourselves by making "better sharpen the axe" comments in front of her. Funny how she keeps calling our bluff. Carrie Dennett, MPH, RDN, CD. Links to this post. Carrie's Urban Farm: October 2010
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Lazy ladies, lax about laying. Lovely ladies on the lam. The ladies gave me two eggs today, but none. I'm not liking those averages. Carrie's Urban Farm: March 2011
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Miss Buttons, Little Bob and Coco did a great job of attacking this lettuce head today. As always.don't let them mistake YOUR head for a head of iceberg. Where's Lady Marmalade? She was on the nest, laying the first of the day's FOUR eggs! Carrie Dennett, MPH, RDN, CD. Carrie's Urban Farm: Bountiful gardens
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2011/09/bountiful-gardens.html
Growing good food in the city. Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Ahhhhit's little videos like this that make me a bit sad that I haven't had as much time to devote to my urban farm as I did before going back to school. I love this garden! It's practical and makes use of every inch of space! As little time as I've spent in my veggie patch, I've spent even less time blogging about it. Sheesh! Kale and other dark leafy greens. Summer squash (three kinds). Carrots and beets (in lesser amounts). I've never had a...

Carrie's Urban Farm: September 2010
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Monday, September 6, 2010. We did a lot of laboring yesterday. So we're taking today off. Can't say the same for the ladies, though. This is the first time we had three eggs by 11 am I take this as a sign that our (slightly) youngest chicken, Babette (or Little Bob), has started laying. We'll know for sure if we get a fourth egg today. The only thing more fun than digging to China. Is trying to dig to China. Carrie Dennett, MPH, RDN, CD. Links to this post. I was game more ...

Carrie's Urban Farm: July 2011
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Sunday, July 31, 2011. I subscribe to a local urban farm message group, and the other day someone described her Blue Wyandotte chicken as a "blue beach ball." This amused me to no end, because sometimes little Bob (and her coop-mates, to be fair) does look quite round, especially after she's just fluffed out her feathers. Here's a nice photo of her from about a month ago. A photo with a backstory. Ohmygod.what is that chicken DOING? Why is she out there? Why are we in here?

Carrie's Urban Farm: June 2011
http://carriesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Growing good food in the city. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. I mean, I sort of knew trouble was brewing when you started doing that turkey-tail thing this weekend and making that tut-tutting noise, but sitting on the nest ALL DAY when there aren't even any eggs under you. Seriously? Plus, while you were inside all day acting like a big dum-dum, you totally missed out on the strawberries I brought out to the other, well-mannered ladies. Carrie Dennett, MPH, RDN, CD.
