Wednesday, August 17, 2011. A Wonderful Weekend in Crete. For the Fourth of July holiday weekend we made a fairly last minute decision to visit Greece. Our friends Danny and Carolee had recently visited a town called Hersonissos on the island of Crete. They loved it so much that they wanted to go back as soon as possible. After some quick planning and some late night phone calls while booking flights and hotels online we had a plan. View from our hotel balcony-not perfect but I'll take it! I've read abou...

Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Christmas, Snow, Snow, and More Snow. Well, Christmas came and went this year and was very quiet for us. None of our gifts for each other or our packages from our families (with the exception of one-thank you Pam! Truth be told, I had trouble finding my Christmas spirit this year. Normally I have no problem being the happiest, Christmasiest (I made up that word! On to the second part of this post.SNOW! I recently found out the meaning of snow. It apparently stands for. Monday, September 26, 2011. We Hiked the Zugspitze! In case you are unaware (as I was before I lived here), the Zugpitze. Is the highest point in Germany. It is located in the Northern Alps, and the borders of Germany and Austria actually meet right at it's peak. So, as I mentioned in the title. we hiked it! It's certainly not the highest mountain the in the world at 2,962 meters (9,718 feet) above sea level, but it's certainly the highest one I've ever climbed, so I'm pretty excited about it. Of our hik...

Thursday, October 21, 2010. As I sat in my office at work today, looking out at a cold blustery day, I couldn't believe that it's the beginning of our fifth winter in Germany. Here's the view from my office window:. This led me to think about what a crazy four years it's been. Since we've been here, we have been through so many things that I never could have imagined before we came. Here's a sampling of some of the crazier things:. 6 Seeing, all in one day, in Amsterdam: The Anne Frank House (which was ...

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. The Not So Super Superbowl. Since we have the lovely time difference to deal with, Rick and I took a nap and set the alarm for 12:15 am so we could be up for the 12:30 am Superbowl kick-off. As we settled in and started to watch, we weren't sure what happened to poor Christina Aguilera who decided to forget the words to the National Anthem (! I certainly hope that is not the case because that is just too much guilt for me to carry around. We have one restaurant in our town that...

Sunday, July 19, 2009. I thought of a form of torture last night. 1 have someone sleep in a very hot bedroom. top floor of the house, no ac, just one window to open. (make sure said room faces the street outside.). 2 release stupid, white, drunk, immature, disrespectful college kids into the street outside. wait for the yelling to commence. (best if person in hot room has just drifted off to sleep when the yelling starts.). 3 allow it to continue for an extended period of time. Friday, July 17, 2009.
