In order to provide Access and Egress information for canoeists using the Welsh river network. Canoe Access to the Welsh river network. CANOE ACCESS - WELSH RIVERS. Rises on Pumlumon (Plynlimon) at 2000 feet above sea-level and runs steeply through the Hafren Forest until at 950 feet it may be canoed when flash-flood water fills the river. A more normal start can be made at Llanidloes or on the Clywedog. From here, the Severn is mainly Grade I but the weir at Penarth needs inspection and care. The part of the river below Melverley does not form part of this page. Bridge. 5ft Wier. Rapid on S Bend.

Canoe Access to the Welsh river network. CANOE ACCESS - WELSH RIVERS. Rises near the Northwest border of old Montgomeryshire and flows Eastwards to its confluence with the Vyrnwy, 5 miles from Welshpool. Canoeable from the start or as a continuation of the Twrch only in high water (HW) or from Neuadd in Medium Water (MW), but is canoeable with hard work (lifting over boulders) in Low Water (LW). Grade I increasing to II in HW. Road on LT A458. Road on LT A458. Access with permission on the day.

Canoe Access to the Welsh river network. CANOE ACCESS - WELSH RIVERS. Starts at Lake Vyrnwy and flows Eastwards to the Severn at Melverley. On the upper reaches, it is advisable to use a leader who is familiar with the river as conditions change dramatically dependent on the levels. Levels depend largely on Dam release and run-off from side tributaries. Fallen trees are an intermittent problem. Popular starting points for white-water are Lake Vyrnwy Dam. Or Dolanog Gorge start. Cownwy Bridge / Confluence.
