Roanoke River Paddle Trail. The Roanoke River Trail is much more than the Roanoke River. This trail system covers swamps, creeks and other rivers in the immediate vicinity of the Roanoke from Hamilton to the Albemarle Sound. The trail system includes several campsites available by reservation. The best way to find out about this trail system is to visit the Roanoke River Partners. The Prothonotary Warbler (protonotaria citrea) is named for its coloring, similar to robes worn by prothonotaries (papal clerks). The warbler itself is 14 cm long, with a rich yellow. Body and dark blue-gray wings and tail. Their coloring is a little richer than a gold finch. Like the gold finch, the female is not colored so loudly.

How to find out about water levels? Keeps all that information for you. The down side to this site is it lists so many rivers it will take a while for you to locate the one you need. To cut down your hunting time, identify your river's basin beforehand. If this site isn't what you want, try the US Army Corps of Engineers.
carolina bays

A large chunk of Hyde County is underneath Lake Mattamuskeet. At 18 miles across by 6 miles wide, this is the largest natural lake in North Carolina. From April to October the south shore of the lake is a paddle trail. The trail is 9 miles long and offers views of this beautiful, shallow lake. The lake is closed to boating from November 1 to March 1 for migratory birds. During those months, leave the canoe at home and take the camera instead. Thousands of swans stop over on the lake every year.
