Our new hand built bed | Our Adventure
https://capeharts.wordpress.com/2012/03/24/we-ordered-a-ne
Laquo; Turning a niddy noddy. Our new hand built bed. March 24, 2012 by capehart. We ordered a new memory foam mattress recently because our old one was very much on it’s way out. We decided after two years of marriage we needed an actual bed, instead of laying the mattress on the floor! From left to right: The completed design in Sketchup, an “X-Ray” view of it, the finished frame without platform, and the finished bed with the bed skirt. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. On overly complex replacements | Recursive pondering
https://capehart.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/on-overly-complex-replacements
April 10, 2015. On overly complex replacements. Arthur C. Clarke wrote a story called “Superiority”. It is a reasonably interesting science fiction tale on its own, but it is even more interesting from an engineering standpoint. The theme of the story is the cost of replacing older but reliable systems with newer but untested systems. I think it is very applicable to any engineering discipline. I have some more to say about it, but you may want to read the story first:. 8230;……. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

July 12, 2013. On synchronizing your personal data. Also, if I do not mind storing it in the cloud, I can use Github. I could also buy a Github pro account for private repos, but I don’t want to spend the money right now. Posted in Knowledge Organization. Laquo; On multiline SED. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. On learning assembly | Recursive pondering
https://capehart.wordpress.com/2013/07/20/on-learning-assembly
July 20, 2013. There is something to be said for simplicity, however, so I decided to not start with x86, though I did read some about memory models (real mode, etc.). I considered a lot of older assemblies, including ARM, MIPS, TI TMS9900, Z80 and Atmel AVR. I finally decided on MIPS because:. 1 It is fairly ubiquitous. There are several nice emulators (I like the MARS emulators), and there are lots of learning resources. 2 It is fairly simple, but it is a real assembly, very practical.

On Generics | Recursive pondering
https://capehart.wordpress.com/2014/04/25/on-generics
April 25, 2014. The difference between generics in C and Java is pretty interesting. C creates a new instance of the class or method for each type of invocation. So, if you use it with an int, a string and a double, you get 3 copies in the compiled code. Java, on the other hand, creates a single version with “type erasure”. This is possible because every class inherits from the base Object class. For example, if you write this:. Class Foo T {. Private T item;. Public void set(T item) {. Thisitem = item;.
On multiline SED | Recursive pondering
https://capehart.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/on-multiline-sed
June 24, 2013. I had to use SED’s multiline capabilities today. It took me awhile to find the right syntax, especially since I have not had time to sit down and learn SED properly, from the beginning; at least I am passingly capable with regexes. Basically, I had 2 identical lines in a file, but I only wanted to change one of them. The context of the lines, specifically the preceding line, defined which line should be changed. I ended up with this (scrubbed for security) command:. Enter your comment here.
On mind-mapping software | Recursive pondering

July 12, 2013. A comment on Facebook made me go to the Wikipedia list of mind-mapping software, and I have been installing and trying each one. Almost all of them will run on Windows, Linux and OSX. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List of mind-mapping software. Http:/ www.xmind.net/. A close second is the fully free Freemind. It can export to a lot more formats than the free XMind, if that is important to you. It even has some nifty exports, like active webpage. Http:/ www.docear.org/. Get every new post de...
On a bug in Java’s TreeSet and TreeMap | Recursive pondering
https://capehart.wordpress.com/2014/05/15/on-a-bug-in-javas-treeset-and-treemap
May 15, 2014. On a bug in Java’s TreeSet and TreeMap. I’m fairly confident that I found a bug, or at least a violation of contract, in Java’s TreeSet and TreeMap – TreeSet, at least currently, is mostly a wrapper around TreeMap. The documentation for TreeSet gives a contract:. If and only if this set contains an element. E= null : o.equals(e). I created a TreeSet, but gave it a custom comparator that sorted it by ascending String length. I had 3 items in it, like these:. Laquo; On Generics. Follow &ldquo...

The Capehart Phonograph
In the 1930s, there was no finer instrument for reproducing records than the big Capehart Deluxe instruments. These fabulous instruments were priced far beyond the means of the average music lover, so they remained an exclusive luxury through the Depression. This web site will contain an overview of the Capehart, and I invite comments and contributions. 16 E (shown at left).
