Karen's Ramblings

Monday, November 28, 2011. I'm going to start off with a very familiar verse. Thursday, November 17, 2011. Tuesday, November 15, 2011. I can hardly believe how long it has been since my last blog post. As I read them, I am confronted with some questions. Am I still the same person I was then? We experience life's lessons for a reason, so I shall just have to take the good with the bad. What is the main lesson that I have learnt during these years? Monday, February 1, 2010. Last week I received a very exc...

Karen's Ramblings: Plotting and Planning

http://www.capitalk-ramblings.blogspot.com/2010/02/plotting-and-planning.html

Monday, February 1, 2010. Last week I received a very exciting e-mail informing me that I'd been accepted to study a Unisa course - Christian Counselling. I'd been praying about this, because initially the head of this department had said I probably wouldn't be able to do it without having a matric. I decided to fax my registration in anyway, and two days later received my student number and payment information. Wow! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Karen's Ramblings: September 2008

http://www.capitalk-ramblings.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 26, 2008. I put the pen to the paper for the first time. Today I was introduced to blogging. It is with keen anticipation that I look forward to sharing my thoughts and opinions in this blog. Hopefully something of interest can be taken from my writings and I, too, will grow from this experience. This blog is going to be something of a journal where I discuss my opinions, and events of my daily life, from a Christian perspective. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: Switching to My Father's World Curriculum

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2012/05/switching-to-my-fathers-world.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. Switching to My Father's World Curriculum. Learning about our precious rhinos- Folded Paper Rhinos. Our homeschool journey has been a very bumpy one. First, we were unsure how to go about homeschooling in South Africa. We started off rather blindly, with no support or information about homeschooling. We want a curriculum that is Bible based, one that doesn't just tag on Bible. We all love books, and reading plays a huge part in our learning. We like to d...

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. Partial Eclispe of the Sun. Today we experienced a partial eclipse of the sun, in South Africa. It proved a great Science lesson, presented by Dad, who was extremely clever at the various ways he showed the children the eclipse. We also had some special viewing glasses that were safe to use. Then Daddy took the telescope and reflected the sun onto paper first and then onto each persons hand. See below. Then we reflected it onto a large poster...To explai...

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: April 2009

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. Time to change my ticker! After months of not blogging, I have to make a quick entry here tonight. About a month ago, Shelley, our youngest, was finally weaned, after feeding for 2 years and 5 months. Yippee! So, for the first time in seven years, I am not pregnant, breastfeeding or both ;-). I thought I would be rather sad about this, but it was a very happy ending for us both, the time was ripe, and I feel I need a bit of " re-charging. Alpha Omega Hom...

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: The Eco-brick

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2014/08/the-eco-brick.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. We recently visited a friend and found her kitchen counters "littered" with 2 L soft drink bottles, filled with colourful bits of plastic. Curious, we just had to ask. Joel and Emma gladly joined in, and Joel has been responsible for ramming the plastic in. He does it very effectively with a wooden dowel. They both made signs at our dustbin so that we would remember not to throw away the plastic. So, would you like to join the ecobrick challenge? I've re...

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: February 2009

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. Last night our family did our first real camping trip- to a nearby national game reserve, called Addo elephant park. We took along two tents, some food, eating utensils and I think for a first camping trip it was all very civilised indeed. The loo was a long walk away for (me) and a child who only wants to use the loo now (Miss S), but very clean and so that was fine. I was amazed to see the tiniest elephant calf I have ever seen. It was still very h...

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. I have not blogged for such a long time. I thought I'd better tell a bit of our Winter months. Above is a picture of the family at Hogsback. We went up to the mountains in early July, it was great. We just missed the fantastic snow which came the following week. Here the children are dressed for a neighbours party. This was late June. The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: January 2010

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. I'm sorry to have to post this, but for some of our friends, it's the only way you'll get the news. I was 12 weeks pregnant and started miscarrying on Thursday. I had all the usual tests and scans and the Dr's found the baby must have died quite a while back as there was no heart beat, a large rather empty sac and development had stopped. I had a D&C today. The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: Our Journey into Homeschooling

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2011/10/our-journey-into-homeschooling.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. Our Journey into Homeschooling. So, why are you homeschooling? I have to say, though I am often asked this question, I honestly do not tell people the full answer that you'll read here. Why? Because quite frankly, most of the time people are not really interested in your answer. Around this time, my husband read a book, in which Dr. James Dobson called for parents incertain states of the United States to pull their children out of school, and home ed...

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa: November 2009

http://thegreavesfamily.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

The Greaves Family, homeschooling in South Africa. Another blessing on the way. I'm thrilled to tell you all that we've another baby on the way. It is still very early days and I think the baby is due about July next year. James and the children are very excited about it. We've told a few people, many have blessed us with their positive reaction. It has not been easy with some negative reactions however. I'll see the doctor on Tuesday. Links to this post. We were out to create a reliable company that combined socialization, behavior control and exercise. We work with each dog to ensure that they remain focused and obedient at all times. This method is effective not only while the animals are in our care, but extends to a more pleasurable walking experience for the owners when the animals are at home.
