My Summer @ Sea!

My Summer @ Sea! Saturday, August 28, 2010. The end of Mercy :(. Wow Summer is over! This ship is almost done with its journey, and I’m ready to sink it. I can’t wait to go home. But I’m also sad to leave the countries behind and the people I’ve met both on land and on the ship. So here are some interesting numbers to sum up what the Pacific Partnership 2010 has achieved:. Total surgeries on board:. Total people seen ashore (medcaps):. Construction projects- schools, community centers. Sandy- Held hostag...

My Summer @ Sea!: May 2010

http://www.captainkayla.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

My Summer @ Sea! Saturday, May 29, 2010. From Guam to Vietnam. WOW I can’t believe the week is coming to an end. We’ll be in Vietnam tomorrow, and then Monday is our first day we receive patients! So I got to go the bridge yesterday! One of the guys let me “steer the ship” which meant I pretty much got to touch the wheel as it stayed straight. But it was cool. Last night was the coolest night I’ve had on the ship. It feels unreal that I’m actually sailing on a ship through the Phillipines. I’m also...

My Summer @ Sea!: I want more Singapore

http://www.captainkayla.blogspot.com/2010/07/i-want-more-singapore.html

My Summer @ Sea! Monday, July 5, 2010. I want more Singapore. Ok, Singapore was one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. What a shocker city. I felt like I was in a movie of the future. We were only there for 4 days as a Navy morale booster after working so hard in Cambodia, and our LDSC group took advantage of every day. Alright DAY 1: RAINFOREST ADVENTURE. Day 2: Chinatown and Little india. Day 3: Sentosa Island. Day 4: CHURCH THE BEST DAY EVER! We took the MRT to the church building and its huge!

My Summer @ Sea!: The Best of Timor Leste

http://www.captainkayla.blogspot.com/2010/08/best-of-timor-leste.html

My Summer @ Sea! Tuesday, August 17, 2010. The Best of Timor Leste. Timor turned out to be a little jewel. I wasn’t expecting anything from Timor since it is so small but what a fun time it ended up being. To start with a little background- Timor Leste is the first new country of the 21. That said…Dili, the city we are parked in, is great! We have limited liberty- confined to one single street appropriately named beach road. It literally lines the beach and is a busy road. My liberty group consis...Subsc...

My Summer @ Sea!: The End is NEAR!!!!!

http://www.captainkayla.blogspot.com/2010/08/end-is-near.html

My Summer @ Sea! Sunday, August 22, 2010. The End is NEAR! I forgot to mention the vocab i use all the time with patients:. Hello: hola (easy enough! Good morning/hello: Bon Dia. Good afternoon/hello: Bon Tarde. 8/13/10 – Good day in Peds. What a terrible start and terrific ending to my day. I missed my chance because I was an idiot. I was feeling pretty down since I broke my camera lense, broke lizzy’s camera, lost my ipod, lost Richard’s USB stick and now, what do I do? In between all of this, I played...

My Summer @ Sea!: April 2010

http://www.captainkayla.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

My Summer @ Sea! Wednesday, April 28, 2010. My first Blog EVER. Since I'm going to be on a Navy SHIP (not boat, I am informed) I decided to start off professional, because the Navy is. Here is a quick little guide to whats going on- FAQS:. Q: Kayla, what the heck are you actually doing? A: Good question, I'll be living on a Navy ship called the USNS Mercy. I'll be helping with a humanitarian collaboration between the Navy, the LDS church, Project Smile, and other charities/orgs. Q: Where are you going?

Living the Dream ♥: July 2010

http://jen48.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Living the Dream ♥. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Random things I've noticed lately. 1 I’ve been home a month and a half and I’m still white. 2 I cannot sleep with open closet doors. Or flashing lights. 3 My kitten wakes up at 6:14 every morning. My alarm is set for 6:20. Her meowing is loud, and wakes us all up. 4 Lily is hilarious. I did a survey with her the other day. These are some of her answers answers:. A Number: 102 why? Cause it’s the biggest number in the whole wide world. Friday, July 16, 2010.

Captain Kayak's Outdoor Adventures

Sunday, December 1, 2013. Ten Thousand Islands - Rabbit Key - November 2013. It is worth mentioning that although we always try to pick Rabbit Key as our camp site, it is so popular that it's always taken, except this year. We were lucky the park rangers (where you buy the camping permits) were warning campers of dangerous high winds in the area around Rabbit Key. Thank God for high winds to scare away tourists! All in all, it was just another amazing trip. I'm already looking forward to next year.
