The 2015 route as sailed: Chatillon-sur Loire to Decize via Nevers. Day, we passed the end of the commercial route and had no further problems. The locks are mostly manually operated, so it’s fun to help out working the lock gates. Doing some of the work also get’s you a little cred with the lock keepers, and that can be worthwhile. 2017 Itinerary

The Route for 2017: Castelsarrasin to Le Mas d’Aginais. Download Google Earth kmz file of the route here. We’ll turn in the boats first thing in the morning in Le Mas d’Aginais. The overall distance is around 85 miles, and there will be around 33 locks. We’ll be going downstream most of the time, but the locks are not that deep. Around 7’ is the typical fall, so nothing exceptional on the rope work.

For 2017, there’s a return to southern France, in the area between Toulouse and Bordeaux. We’ll be on the Canal Lateral a la Garonne, with a side trip on the river Baise.
