The Captain's Log: Yorkshire wolds

http://captainslog.org.uk/wolds.php

I set out on a circular walk around the remote village of Thixendale in the Yorkshire wolds. The landscape here is strikingly different to that elsewhere in Yorkshire. The walk followed along part of the Wolds Way, and later part of Centenary Way. Having just got a new camera phone, I decided to try out the macro setting and record as much of the autumnal scene as possible. Seeing the spider on such a clear web strung across vegetation so close to the ground was good - getting a close-up photo was a bonus.

The Captain's Log: Norwich

http://captainslog.org.uk/norwich.php

Saturday 14th February 1998. I walked alongside the River Wensum past boats and fishermen enjoying the very mild sunny conditions, on my way to the castle. The Sun beat down upon Castle Green, an oasis of calm amid the bustle of Norwich. An interesting series of paths to saunter along. The Snapdragon was paraded through the town as part of an annual civic procession right up until the start of the 20th century. Sunday 15th February 1998. This 14th century round brick structure was once part of Norwich's ...

Thursday 19th March 1998. The best way to approach Conwy is by foot. Take the train to Llandudno Junction, walk along the. Shoreline path - and be rewarded with breathtaking views across the harbour and ahead towards the stunning castle. Originally built by Edward I between 1283-87, it is a tribute to the medieval design and construction of the time that so much survives today. Exploring the castle itself is fantastic! Friday 20th March 1998. After 15 minutes walk through the village you approach the Mar...

The Captain's Log: Rombalds Moor

http://captainslog.org.uk/burleyiw.php

I started my walk at the village of Burley in Wharfedale, which nestles in pleasant countryside in the county of West Yorkshire. I left the railway station, heading off along a country lane, past stone-built houses but soon emerged among fields surrounded by dry stone walls. Visiting during the nesting season, as I did during May, there are many moorland birds calling and flying overhead. Its also the time of year to see lambs and calves in the fields. 1998-2016 The Captain's Log.

The Captain's Log: Bolton Abbey

http://captainslog.org.uk/boltonab.php

Skip to main content. Leaving the dog to have another attempt, I walked on and started to climb a very steep hill towards Storiths. The path lead up an ancient route between two dry stone walls and by a farm where one is soon in sight of Storiths Crag. Getting up to the crag itself is quite a steep but short climb and on a day like today it was a bit parky up top or to put it another way, it was blowing a gale! Luckily the wind was blowing up the hill - not thankfully towards the crag edge! If you are in...

The Captain's Log - Travel journals in Scotland, England and Wales.

This Autumn I visited both Pickering and Whitby. Travelling between the two towns by steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Fantastic! Last summer I travelled to Knaresborough. Took a pleasant walk along the River Nidd, enjoyed a wooded walk along the River Wharfe. And explored an unusual 200 year old folly: the Druid's Temple. Previously, a walk in the Yorkshire Wolds. Gave me the chance to capture nature's autumnal colours at their best. I also headed to the coast to arrive at Scarborough.

Saturday, 18 April 2009. Evolution of a being. You are emerging from the primordial soup. You are being driven by primary needs. Your physical form reflects these basic requirements. You are at the earliest evolutionary stage. I began to isolate my primary needs in order to develop a physical form for my being - how it moves, how it eats, how it thinks etc. My being - keeps a very low profile in order to evade gangs on the streets. Eats almost any fast food it can get hold of. Saturday, 28 March 2009.

I'm out riding my bicycle today, getting some exercise and relaxing a bit. Just yesterday I gave away a bunch of stuff to people that wanted to take it. I feel free of some physical clutter and even ready to organize and get my studio together. Life in Portland is all good. Saturday, June 5, 2010. Oozing, sounds a bit gross but worse it's wasteful....
