Jargon | The Amateur Photographer
https://capturingsight.wordpress.com/jargon
A novice's guide to more professional photography. A list of photographer’s jargon, and what it all means:. Measured in F stops, the aperture determines how much of your picture is in focus. Small numbers such as F/4 blur the background while keeping just the front subject in focus and are used for things like portraits. Large numbers such as F/20 keep the whole picture sharp and are used for landscapes. Bokeh (pronounced boh-kay): the name given to blurry backgrounds. How much of the picture is in focus.
Focusing: focal points | The Amateur Photographer
https://capturingsight.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/focalpoints
A novice's guide to more professional photography. Your camera’s focusing system, which is what makes your photos sharp, can look daunting. As a beginner, you’ll set off using Single Auto Focus,. Shown as S-AF on your camera’s LCD screen. Your camera tries to decide, using a set of points, where you’d like it to focus and once it’s decided it maintains focus at a set distance until you take the photo or release the shutter button. Want and not on the things you. The problems start when your subject isn&#...
Basic Equipment | The Amateur Photographer
https://capturingsight.wordpress.com/2015/02/15/equipment
A novice's guide to more professional photography. What equipment do you need to start to take more professional looking photographs? I read online that it’s not the camera, but the skill of the photographer, which makes a good picture. It’s not true! Do you really need a DSLR camera (the professional’s choice) or is a Bridge camera equally as good? I have both, and I’ve written an extensive comparison of the two in this blog post. My cameras consist of:. If you’re buying a DSLR make sure it has in...

How a rescue Schnauzer changed my life. I spent, and wasted, a lot of money trying out various products for my rescue Schnauzer. Here is a list of my best buys:. 2 in 1 Dog Coat. I mostly use a long, 8m, extending/retractable lead. For Bertie’s walks, as we are in the countryside away from busy roads. They only last about 12 months though before the retracting mechanism starts to fail, but then he does pull, especially if he sees a) a cat b) a pheasant c) a rabbit d) another dog or e) basically...If your...

Dog Books | Bertie and Me

How a rescue Schnauzer changed my life. I bought several expensive books on dog behaviour and training and only found 2 that were anywhere near good or useful for my rescue Miniature Schnauzer – they have become my dog bibles! When Pigs Fly: Training Success with Impossible dogs. A training guide with the independent thinking, ‘unbiddable’ terrier breed in mind! Available from Amazon in paperback or on Kindle. 8221;, cos if I can’t it’s of no use to me! Available from Amazon in paperback or on Kindle.
Poop, pain & pills | Bertie and Me
https://bertieandme.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/ppp
How a rescue Schnauzer changed my life. Poop, pain & pills. Bertie has had 3 ticks in the last month. We live surrounded by woodland and it’s just an occupational hazard. In the past I’ve used all sorts of tick repellents and spot-ons and he gets them anyway. Last time I was at the vets he gave me some. Apologies for the poor picture – the bowls aren’t as huge as they look in this photo! This entry was posted in Dog rescue. May 18, 2015. Plodding along →. 3 thoughts on “ Poop, pain & pills. The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all. Walt Disney Company, Mulan. FQ Wall of Pain. NY Times FQ Article. WORD CLOUDS…kind of fit in the “art” category…I guess. I know word cloud software is old news, but I just got around to experimenting with it a couple months ago. Here are some anti-FQ word clouds I made. Someday I’ll return to the site. Refine the words a little better, and maybe try out some different shapes. Feel free to steal these from me and use them. Collec...

Monday, March 25, 2013. It's such a rare thing to have fog here. I miss fog. I miss the cozy, slow mornings of my childhood that were wrapped in a blanket of quiet. It calms me, rejuvenates me and makes me stop,. And enjoy the moment. It doesn't last long and must be savored while it is present. This was taken last Autumn, you can see the crab apples that had started to fall. Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Monday, March 18, 2013. Friday, March 8, 2013. Thursday, May 12, 2011. January 1, 2015. Once again I’m sitting here scrambling last minute to write a year end post. I’ve had an ongoing New Year’s Resolution to post monthly updates so this kind of thing doesn’t happen. Maybe 2015 will be the lucky year I documented better and get organized? The words in this post don’t even begin to touch the highs and lows from 2014. The photos don’t even begin to touch all the captures … especially what’s on our IPhone’s. Brett turned the big 3-0! The weather was crazy! Dad’s new hea...
