Minimally Invasive Therapies for Atrial Fibrillation. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) can be used to heat tissue epicardially, on the beating heart, to perform the HIFU minimaze procedure. A multicenter trial was published in 2005 (Ninet 2005) show that this could be performed safely and effectively.
