Background

Jump to miscelleneous information. The GMOS program began in 2010 as the EU FP7 GMOS project. The project’s aim was to establish a global mercury observation system, supported by a cyber(e)-infrastructure ensuring data validity and interoperability, emission scenario studies and by regional and global modelling. Spatial Data Infrastructure gives access to data quality assurance and control tools, as well as providing tools for data mapping, plotting and analysis. The modelling studies, as a result of...

Jump to miscelleneous information. The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) has selected GMOS as showcase to demonstrate how the GEOSS can support Convention and Policies as well as pioneering activity in the environmental monitoring using highly advanced e-infrastructure. The following video was prepared by the GEO Secretariat. We have 29 guests online.

Jump to miscelleneous information. The most recent and comprehensive Hg emissions inventory is based on data from 2010 and presents estimates of anthropogenic emissions to air from various sources as well as releases to aquatic environment. The report was prepared by UNEP and AMAP as a contribution to the UNEP report Global Atmospheric Mercury Assessment (GMA) 2013. A Technical Background Report for the GMA 2013 was also prepared. A more detailed analysis of emissions from some major source sectors.

Emission scenarios
http://www.gmos.eu/index.php/scenariosemissions
Jump to miscelleneous information. Within GMOS, scenarios of global emissions until the year 2030 has been made using the following scenario descriptions:. The ‘Status Quo’ (SQ) scenario assumes that current patterns, practices and uses that result in mercury emissions to air will continue. Economic activity is assumed to increase, in various regions; however, emission control practices remain unchanged from those currently employed, leading to increased emissions in several sectors.
