NOTES FROM ALL AROUND: February 2013

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Friday, February 22, 2013. The liberation from hypocrisy. The morning after the election George Grant said he was scratching his head; wondering what just happened. He was one of quite a few people of that ilk who have been living for a while now in a land of denial. I was reviewing them overnight - and it refreshed my memories, blow by blow of how the seeds of this demise were being sown. If their egos do not get in the way, they sh...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Farewell, my best man! For his few detractors, they think that the many of us that praise him, are blowing our top. He was not a saint. That was not his calling. But he was a champion. That was his choice. He was a believer, in the goodness of man. That people, by their essence, are better than what they sometime act out in peculiar circumstances. And he had his jail years to show for it. Personally speaki...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND: January 2014
http://caribupdate.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Monday, January 20, 2014. Running from George Worme's side. I had promised myself to leave that NDC leadership thing alone - and maybe I will still do eventually after this. I must confess there is a huge chunk of me, for largely selfish partisan reasons, that wants Nazim Burke to become leader. Additionally, anytime it seems like I would end up on the same side on any issue as George Worme, I begin to get worried. That, of course, i...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Thursday, January 10, 2013. It's been a long time coming! So what's new eh? Not sure what was all the excitement about, because that was as predictable as anything this century. Having cast his lot by suspending parliament six months ago to avoid a total collapse of his government - in his "nobody can cheat me of my time" mode - time effectively ran out on the Tillman Thomas administration on Wednesday. As he tried to figure his next...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Wednesday, June 13, 2012. A Call for Ethical Responsibility in Public Office. The following article - a commentary on the debate surrounding the Grenada Prime Minister's acceptance of a US $50,000 donation into his account - was submitted by Sandra Pierre - a Toronto-based commentator on public affairs. As a contribution to the ongoing debate, we publish the contribution in full. An appropriate example of our inability to move beyond...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Monday, February 10, 2014. Comrade Naz and the leadership deficit. The ascension of Nazim Burke as leader of the National Democratic Congress has been noted – and on a personal level you want to wish every man well in the context of everything. In politics, especially in this small society as ours, we cannot get so mean spirited, that we cannot wish someone well, even while fundamentally being opposed to where they stand. It is also ...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Wednesday, August 20, 2014. You can't be against something you are for. IN KEEPING with Senator Nazim Burke's muddled thinking, he now opposes, what he always wanted. Burke says he supports the idea of Grenada joining the Caribbean Court of Justice; and he also supports the setting up of an electoral commission. But Burke is advocating that people vote no in next year's referendum. A clearer, smarter mind than. Would have then said.

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Political grandstanding won't save us. IT IS LIKE all the tough lessons I have had to learn, I learnt them in the last two weeks. I had an informative casual sit down with one of the region's biggest investors in hotels, malls and real estate - an aging American millionaire with investments in a few islands who strangely has socialist sensibilities. Make no mistake about it, our region is in the throes of ...

NOTES FROM ALL AROUND. What life has taught me, I would like to share'. Friday, December 5, 2014. No path to victory for the UWP in Dominica. DOMINICA'S opposition United Workers Party will do better than they did in 2009. The problem for UWP however is that this will not be enough. In a scenario that is becoming unlikely everywhere else in the Caribbean in recent years, the Dominic Labour Party appears to be headed for a fourth successive term in next Monday's general elections. Roosevelt Skerrit has a ...
