Thursday, March 19, 2009. My good friend Dawson lives and works in Shanghai, so I headed out to visit him last semester, delighting in us living on the same continent for the first time in years. I arrived during the week and spent time touring around the city while he worked during the day. An outdoor exhibit at the Shanghai Art Museum. An exhibit at the Shanghai Museum - a history museum where I spent a rainy afternoon. The Bund at night. Me on the Bund. Nanjing Road shopping street neon lights. Lucy, ...

China Times: New Beginnings
http://katerainchina.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-beginnings.html
Thursday, September 3, 2009. While these reflections are often at the top of many people’s thoughts as we end a year and begin a new one, for me, right now, it’s as I begin a new year of teaching. But instead of focusing on the many specific things I could list that I want to do differently this year, I’m choosing to think of it more generically. I just want to be better. It is wonderful to be back in Wuhan. I’m glad to have another year to live and teach in China. I’m thankful for th...I moved to Wuhan,...

Thursday, September 10, 2009. The Act of Travel. Almost exactly eight years ago I packed my bags and set foot on a plane for the first time I could remember. I traveled by plane once as a baby but that hardly counts since I couldn’t remember what it felt like to speed down a runway or that slight jolt in the pit of my stomach that happens the moment a plane becomes completely airborne. Views from plane heading to Los Angeles. Living Amidst Bamboo and Busy Streets. Thursday, September 3, 2009. But the pra...

After all, that joy we get in the depths of our being with the approach of our favorite holiday is a feeling we most often learn from childhood. But how much fun would it be if we. From that day on, Cheng’e has lived on the moon with a Jade Rabbit whose shape you are said to be able to see in the moon. Houyi is o...It is s...

Sunday, July 13, 2008. The next great venture - China. Gearing up for my time in China, I have been heading to used book stores and the parent-teacher store as well as discount dollar stores to find good buys on teaching materials and books. I'm an avid reader these days and love figuring out which great novels and other books I plan to take along with me on the adventure - to become part of the adventure or to shape it.
