I shutter to think...

I shutter to think. The blog from Carlo Balistrieri Photography. Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Carlo A. Balistrieri. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. It's amazing how often I find myself breaking the "rules" these days. I still read blogs, many from "pro" photographers that try to make sure you've got the light coming from over your shoulder, i.e. front lighting your subject. More times than not, I'm working with (sometimes strong) backlighting. Don't have your subject looking OUT of the frame? Use only natural light?

I shutter to think...: Every hour is a golden hour....

http://www.carlobalistrieri.blogspot.com/2010/02/every-hour-is-golden-hour.html

I shutter to think. The blog from Carlo Balistrieri Photography. Thursday, February 18, 2010. Every hour is a golden hour. New photographers are often told to shoot during the "golden hours", those halcyon moments around the sun's rising and setting when the world is bathed in a golden glow that somehow makes everything look better. Years of heeding this advice lead to advanced shooters reluctant to photograph outside this sacred window of opportunity. Beyond the issue of artificially restricting the tim...

I shutter to think. The blog from Carlo Balistrieri Photography. Friday, February 26, 2010. Grab your camera.the games are afoot! Inspired by the Olympic sport of Biatholon and underwhelmed by the physiques of many photographers seen at industry events the past twelve months, I've hit on a perfect new event- the Biphotothon. It involves skiing (winter Olympic years) or running (the summer years) and hand-held shooting from prone and standing positions. Carlo A. Balistrieri. Every hour is a golden hour.

I shutter to think. The blog from Carlo Balistrieri Photography. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. POP YOUR BATTERIES OUT! Don't even think twice. If you're not using it TODAY, go to your flash (and other electonic gizmos) right now and DUMP THOSE DOUBLE-A's on your desk. Storing your equipment, even for a modest amount of time, with the batteries installed is NOT a good idea. Batteries leak, and the result is a mess- corroded contacts at the very least, and you can imagine where it goes from there. I'm pleased t...

I shutter to think...: May 2009

I shutter to think. The blog from Carlo Balistrieri Photography. Thursday, May 7, 2009. Video from a DSLR? I know.I'm a bit late to the party. Video from DSLR's has been around for a while. I've always been leery of the idea, but then read Chase Jarvis' blog. About Panasonic's foray into the world of video from a still camera. Chase's review of the camera, the Lumix GH1 was a little luke warm, and I still think I'd prefer a dedicated video camera (although I'm willing to be convinced). Video from a DSLR?
