kianga :: a burst of light: sometimes sunday church looks like this
http://satpack.blogspot.com/2009/10/sometimes-sunday-church-looks-like-this.html
Thursday, October 29, 2009. Sometimes sunday church looks like this. We've been going out with Pastor Boniface most wednesday and friday mornings. He picks us up at 5 to head to a dark street corner downtown to meet with these boys. On sundays he meets them at little later in the morning for worship. A whole new kind of church, huh? Im sad/happy. PLEASE give Boniface the BIGGEST hug ever for me. My heart is hurting but joyful for you.hence the sad/happy. Love you, Sat. November 2, 2009 at 3:31 PM. And Je...

kianga :: a burst of light: fluorescence
http://satpack.blogspot.com/2009/10/fluorescence.html
Thursday, October 8, 2009. For those of you that have tracked us down on Skype, the difficulty you have had in seeing our beautiful faces was caused by this atrocity:. Yeah That's a naked fluorescent bulb hanging from the ceiling. And that is the only type of light source used in the house. Believe or not, I feel like I've been putting up with this exceptionally well. I also feel like I deserve that pat on the back considering my obsessive compulsive tendencies related to lighting. But that one fluoresce...

http://satpack.blogspot.com/2009/10/tools.html
Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Much of my time lately has been spent doing one of my favorite things: crafting. Or should I say. krafting. krafting with kenyans :). I get to come to the office in the morning and spread out all the silly supplies all over the table and braid fabric strips and make plastic-bag-flowers and draw bead designs and use my expert exacto knife skills to cut patterns out of cardstock. whilst listening to sweet tunes j.thor's africa playlist. Stay tuned for more info (and photos! Wine a...

kianga :: a burst of light: java house
http://satpack.blogspot.com/2009/10/java-house.html
Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Nairobi Java House is delicious collective of the most eclectic mixture of faces and ethnicities and hair styles. I find myself making up stories for all of the mixed families I see. Why are these people in Nairobi? Was that sweet child an orphan once upon a time? Are those other muzungus Americans? A fun game to play. if you can't hear them, you can usually tell by the shoes, or sometimes a painful, mullet-like haircut). I'm going to go with the "everything in moderation" rule ...

kianga :: a burst of light: pokot
http://satpack.blogspot.com/2009/10/pokot.html
Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Putting this week into words has been extremely difficult, hence the lapse in posting. I still don't feel like I can really capture what I experienced in just those 5 days. The thing is, this place is just a place of so many contrasts (as is really the whole of Kenya). Many of these things are still true today. Women are still treated like dirt. Education still seems pointless to them. People still die in cattle raids. But then. there's this:. When I see faces like this. We vis...

kianga :: a burst of light: bus no. 46
http://satpack.blogspot.com/2009/10/bus-no-46.html
Monday, October 5, 2009. Bus no. 46. Wade and I have pretty much mastered the Nairobi public transportation system. Well, ok, we have a pretty solid grasp on it. But sometimes when you're feeling pretty confident, you take chances you shouldn't. We decided (too quickly) to take our chances on a new bus. It didn't work out. It also starting raining. So the only time we've ever been lost in a month and a half- it's pouring, and we're a mile from home (we think? We gave all the Africans very very good laughs.
