The Rooms and Dining Room. The bedrooms are finished in a typically French style and are well presented. All the bedrooms have a full en-suite shower room and tea and coffee facilities are available. Breakfast is included. The entrance hall and dining area, give a warm welcome, to new and old customers alike. A four course evening meal can also be provided for an extra nominal charge. The Village of Mortemart. The village of Mortemart was built around a chateau whose construction was authorised in 995 AD by Abon Drut, The Duke of Mortemart, after his victorious defence of the city of Bellac against Count Guilliaume de Poitiers. It was demolished by order of the Cardinal Richelieu, as were many such fortresses, symbols of feudal power. In 1330, Cardinal Pierre Gauvain, a native of Mortemart, founded three religious institutions:. A private school, run by the Augustins religious order.

The house itself is part of the old Couvent des Carmes , which was built during the 14th century. The property has been regularly updated, from the 1980’s, and incorporates three ensuite bedrooms on the first floor. Pleasant gardens to the front of the property, provide an ideal place to relax and unwind. There is ample parking in the square next to the property, as is the historic church, gardens and market hall areas of Mortemart. The house is situated near the main route from St Junien to Bellac.
