Daven is essentially self taught spending only one year in twice weekly painting sessions at the American Academy of Art, Chicago, IL. He has attended two watercolor workshops, one in the 1980′s taught by Nita Engle and one two years ago taught by Mary Whyte. Currently he teaches studio art credit courses in watercolor at the University of Missouri St. Louis, monthly day and evening watercolor classes in his studio in St. Louis and 2 and 3 day workshops around the country.

Watercolor Suggested Materials List. Arches (or equivalent) cold pressed Watercolor Block 140# paper min. weight, size 14 x 20 min or 18 x 24 or larger preferred. As a substitute for the above, you may use single sheet CP 300# (4 each) or Crescent CP watercolor board. Watercolor 1 flat and an (optional) 2 flat for big washes (I will have a few with me if you don’t have one). 10, 8 and 6 rounds. Sketch pad (8 x 11 or larger) and 2 H pencils, kneaded eraser. Mask and mask pick-up.

Evening classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer from 6 pm to 9:15 pm. The fee for 6 classes is $175. Beginners in watercolor may step into class at any time. Additionally, beginners do not have to bring any materials to the first two classes. Everything needed is provided. No day classes are scheduled for the summer months.

Today it serves as my studio where I paint and teach monthly evening and daytime watercolor classes. My classes are limited to a maximum of 12 students so that each will receive the attention he or she deserves and needs. The space contains everything needed for a fully functioning studio art classroom including a double basin antique sink from the Illinois State capital building in Springfield.
