A Profile of Norma Brophy. Norma's father, Albert Emerys "Bert" Bibby came to Australia in 1906 from New Zealand with his two brothers, John and Ted. All brilliant horsemen, they operated a Buckjump Circus Show. The three Bibby Brothers travelled their circus by horse and wagon until 1914, when the three brothers enlisted in what became known as the "Great War".

Welcome to CarnivalArt.com.au. Features the work of artist Norma Brophy who spent a lifetime travelling the Australian show circuit. Norma has captured many images of the life and times of Australian carnivals using a real circus tent as her canvas. The tent was originally used by Brophy Bros. Circus and became the basis of Norma's artwork from 2002, using on the outer rim of the marquee and incorporating the lacing ropes, eyelets or webbing into each painting. Amp Free CSS Templates.

The Story of the Circus Tents and Paintings. To waterproof the calico, a mixture of kerosene and melted paraffin wax would be swept into the material and allowed to dry. Unfortunately the calico was prone to Black Spot Mildew. If a section rotted away it could be cut out and replaced with new material, with the result that many of the early tents resembled a huge patchwork quilt. Amp Free CSS Templates.
