July | 2015 | A World Worth Watching
https://carolondenman.wordpress.com/2015/07
A World Worth Watching. A record of magical moments – gifts in time. Monthly Archives: July 2015. July 30, 2015. Early July is moulting time for Mountain Sheep. They can look very shaggy and disheveled. The females hang out in family groupings and it is not easy to tell which are the mothers and which are older siblings. I saw two different herds of sheep and this smaller group of about 7 animals by Lake Minnewanka had two lambs. Did you notice the older sheep in the last picture? July 28, 2015. This spo...

A World Worth Watching. A record of magical moments – gifts in time. July 27, 2015. It seemed everywhere we went while in the Rockies we saw wildlife, and most of them with young. On the Pyramid Lookout trail in Jasper we came across a spruce grouse with chicks. The chicks were feathered to blend in perfectly with the sun-dappled moss as they scurried under branches and plants looking for food. This spotted sandpiper was by the Bow River in Canmore. A World Worth Watching. A record of magical moments – gifts in time. A Few of my Favourites. July 21, 2015. I love taking pictures of paintbrush; it is such an intriguing flower. The petals aren’t petals but coloured leaves. The flowers are the green shoots that are sticking out between the leaves. They are long tubular flowers and are pollinated almost exclusively by hummingbirds. The arnicas stood out for the brilliance they added to every meadow and forest floor they covered. Newer post →. A World Worth Watching. A record of magical moments – gifts in time. July 26, 2015. I spent a lovely morning watching this colony of ground squirrels. It was still fairly early and many of them were out and about eating. The young were running around, playing and eating and it wasn’t always easy to tell them from the adults from a distance. This was the only intimate interaction I saw between an adult and a young. Newer post →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Follow Blog via Email.

A World Worth Watching. A record of magical moments – gifts in time. Monthly Archives: June 2015. June 30, 2015. Athabasca Falls is an amazing site. Its not because the falls are “pretty” or incredibly high, but rather because of the power of an immense volume of water thundering into a narrow canyon below. While the falls are always worth viewing, the snow melt made for high water and the falls were extra-ordinary. Athabasca Falls with Mount Kerkeslin in the background. The canyon below the falls. Making Waves: August 2014
http://alexmac2008.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. I am always so happy when friends jump on board no matter what I suggest they would be in store for on any given day to play in the mountains. That tells me something! Along the Big Elbow Trail. After Desolation Flat, we came upon the intersection where we would veer left, descend and then arrive at the damaged bridge, that if it wasn't, the creek crossing would be easy peasy. We managed to make our way across to the other side. Trail towards the Tombstone Lakes. The campground l...
Making Waves: April 2015

Tuesday, April 28, 2015. All they ask upon leaving is that you just make sure all the doors are locked. I sauntered over to my lanai doors for one last look at that view I had. This morning's visitors were the breast cancer survivor rowers. I saw their pink canoe down the beach each day but this was the first time I saw them rowing. It was a lovely sight that pink in the blue. I made up this map showing the lay of the land and the ground I covered. A few of my favourite photos. Sunday, April 26, 2015.

Sunday, May 31, 2015. Ending May on a High Note. The nicer of the two days was today, the very last day of May, so that made it easy to come up with a story to fit my blog post title "Ending May on a High Note"! You see, sometimes I pick a title first before I even head out for the day, and then I build a story around it. After crossing the road and getting up that first little dirt hill, the view becomes amazing already. The early morning calm allowed for a stupendous reflection. Looking towards the Eas...

Sunday, June 29, 2014. Another aspect to overcome on this road to recovery is building up my time behind the wheel. The forecast for this morning was fabulous so I aimed for west, to the mountains, to a pretty place, to views with much meaning, to what would be a round trip of 190 kms. Today's test drive destination was Forgetmenot Pond. It was a picture perfect place to enjoy breakfast and the view. There were two other reasons I aimed for this area. I wanted to eye two specific hiking objectives. Monda...

Making Waves: November 2014
http://alexmac2008.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. With a forecast looking like this. I decided to save being "out and about" until Sunday afternoon when the temperature and windchill for the weekend would be at its highest. Goodness gracious, there's loads to be accomplished within the household, so a stay-at-home Saturday right now is ideal. I put my mind to it, stayed focused and progress was made. I headed for Confluence Park at Nose Creek to test the boots. The next test will be to strap my Lightning Axis to them. Now on t...

Sunday, May 3, 2015. Time in the trees seemed to fly by and before I knew it, I reached the wide open section. This is the spot that gives me the tell tale sign of what the summit might be like. There was next to no wind, the sun felt warm and the trail was clear and dry. After taking care of the summit business, I headed beyond the summit and followed the ridge. After a little visit on the edge, I retraced my steps back to the flag. You can see it right of those trees in the lowest dark cloud mid ph...

Sunday, May 25, 2014. Adventuring of another kind. It will be some time before my pack will be on my back. In the meantime, it makes a great source to rest my arm. I like to keep my hopes and dreams close and having my orange pack strapped on my back where it belongs represents a goal to reach. We all have mountains to climb in life and I know I have a big one right in front of me. I'm ready to begin this long climb and I look forward to reaching the summit. Sunday, May 18, 2014. The ascent went quickly.
Making Waves: March 2015

Saturday, March 28, 2015. Our Day in our Mountains. In hind sight, this rabbit that leered at us at our car pool spot this morning, was the tell-tale sign of how "our Day in our Mountains" would play out but we were blind to its sign. You see he is beginning to turn to browny shades of spring but is still " mostly winter white". We have been in these mountains enough, so we know the environment well enough that they could be ours, meaning we are in tune to the fact they can be ever changing . And arrived...

I've clearly been a total failure at this blog since z was born, but thanks to those of you who are still here. :) To reward you, I have this series that I'm calling #alleynaps, because this urban plant life was the only interesting thing about pushing your baby in a stroller for hours each morning while he slept.
