Questioning Truth | Shari Armstrong's Blog

Just another WordPress.com site. Shari Armstrong's Blog. Tonight, my roommates and I gulped down spaghetti while watching Developing Story updates on CNN. A story on Prince Charles aired. I cannot even remember what the headline read or really even what Wolf Blitzer was saying about the prince. But this was not because I was uninterested. The British correspondent began with Prince Charles of Wales and my roommate cut him off with an inquiry. Why do they add ‘Wales’ at the end of their names? Wikipedia ,...

Public Affairs Reporting Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. Public Meeting 2 →. November 4, 2010. Preston Trigg came back to talk to the class about government budgets and how to read them. Trigg is an incredibly valuable resource for us, as I again noticed after class when he stayed and answered students’ questions for quite awhile. His lecture on government budgets was nothing short of perfect. View all posts by DG →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Public Meeting 2 →. You are commenting us...

Public Affairs Reporting Blog. Just another WordPress.com site. November 11, 2010. William March, chief political reporter for The Tampa Tribune, talked to our class about political-centric records and how to find them. What about in Tennessee? What about in Hawai’i? I was very happy when March said he would show us how to find records from scratch because we might be somewhere else. View all posts by DG →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Just another WordPress.com site. November 27, 2010. News today is influenced by public relations firms or ad agencies. How can a station remain objective when they are given video news releases to pass off to viewers? VNRs are short clips of marketing propaganda produced in the style of real news. The releases feature paid experts that pose as fake reporters who pitch products during their packages. It is easy to blame this on the economy but lazy and dishonest journalism is never acceptable. I, too, fee...

Loulou Issa's Blog. The Planning Commission Public Hearing →. November 2, 2010. Preston Trigg left a lasting impression on me today. I was really very intrigued with what he had to say about budgets. I thought he did a great job thoroughly explaining what a budget is, what it consists of, and what to look for as journalists. This is basically the overview that I got from Trigg:. What is a Budget? It is the money you take in and the money you spend. Every government agency must have one. Capital First-tim...
