Me Around the World: March 2011
http://caroundtheworld.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Views, opinions, and musings from every corner of the globe. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Today's news was so interesting! First: thumbs down for President Obama, as he issues an executive order. To create indefinite detention for Guantanamo Bay prisoners, a blatant contrast. To his very first executive order as president. Thumbs up for former Commander in Chief of CENTCOM, General Anthony Zinni, who has obviously been following my articles on. In about 1000 words. Ugh, whatever. Not bitter.
Me Around the World: September 2010
http://caroundtheworld.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Views, opinions, and musings from every corner of the globe. Sunday, September 26, 2010. Les Celliers de Meknes and Grown-Up Fig Newtons (AKA: Anti-terrorism Hashuma Cookies). There is one word in Moroccan Arabic which describes everything that is socially unacceptable, shameful, irreverent, and naughty. You hear mothers use this word when their children get too rowdy. You hear street vendors use this word when a client is trying to get too. Literally, for shame. Fasctinating…but still hashuma. It was su...
Me Around the World: October 2010
http://caroundtheworld.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Views, opinions, and musings from every corner of the globe. Sunday, October 17, 2010. Be on your way. I have a strong conviction that everyone, at least once in their life, should travel. Doesn’t have to be far. Doesn’t have to be exotic. Just get outside of the boundaries of everything familiar, and soak up something different. After all, as the wise Momma Skroch always says, “Travel is the best teacher.”. I also have a strong conviction that everyone, at least once in their life, should travel alone.

Musings of an Uneasy Writer: On Napkin Therapy
http://megamorocco.blogspot.com/2010/11/on-napkin-therapy.html
Musings of an Uneasy Writer. Ten Thousand Words - عشرة الاف كلمة. Saturday, November 20, 2010. It’s been a long day. I’m tired and grumpy. Around 10pm I get out of a taxi in Batha. And hesitate for a minute. Do I go home, go to straight to bed, and hope that tomorrow will be a bit more encouraging? Or do I go elsewhere in search of a little reminder of why I love living here? Theme song starts playing in my head:. Making your way in the world today takes everything you got. Sometimes you want to go.
A Year In Fez: Holidays in Europe
http://ayearinfez.blogspot.com/2011/01/holidays-in-europe.html
Monday, January 3, 2011. Icecaps on the Spree River, running through Berlin. I decided to take advantage of the cheap Ryan Air flights to Europe and spent the holidays in Berlin, Warsaw, and Bologna. I traveled with another American who teaches in Fez, and the two of us enjoyed lots of delicious food (including a good share of pork), drinks (anything alcoholic will do), and Christmas cheer - all things that are hard to get in Morocco. Brandenburger Tor, central Berlin, with Christmas tree. Subscribe to: ...
A Year In Fez: An Almohad legacy
http://ayearinfez.blogspot.com/2011/01/almohad-legacy.html
Saturday, January 29, 2011. Detail of a pattern on a minaret. This abstract floral motif I have noticed repeatedly throughout the Fez Medina in varying forms and materials. The diamond-shaped meshing became a classic in the Al-Andalus region of Morocco and Southern Spain during the Almohad Dynasty around the 13the century. The most famous examples of its usage are the three 'sister' mosques, the Koutoubia. In Marrakesh, the Giralda. In Sevilla, and the Tour Hassan. Minaret in the Andalusian quarter of Fez.
A Year In Fez: hijab fashion
http://ayearinfez.blogspot.com/2011/05/hijab-fashion.html
Saturday, May 21, 2011. Long rectangular scarf wrapped around the head three times with a 'flower' embellishment on the side. Style to wear with earrings. I also have a 'bonnet' on underneath which allows the scarf to sit back further on the head. Really nice from the back. Large square scarf with pin attached to knot for embellishment. One of my scarves with fringe. One long rectangular scarf of 2 colors faded into one another. Two scarves wrapped around each other. Beautiful scarves - and model! The vi...

Monday, January 3, 2011. Laundry out to dry on my rooftop. I was welcomed back to Fez by a big sun and temperatures of about 30 degrees warmer than in Europe. A Year In Fez: An Artisan Paradise
http://ayearinfez.blogspot.com/2011/01/artisan-paradise.html
Monday, January 10, 2011. The Funduq I have been measuring and studying for the past few weeks has come to symbolize much of how I see Fez as a city: in constant flux. Each time I visit, there is a flurry of activity within the 60 or so artisan workshops. Leather slippers, intricately embroidered belts, guys drinking mint tea, a donkey waiting in the courtyard to deliver supplies; these are just a few things I find. I cant wait to see it myself. January 10, 2011 at 6:41 PM. January 12, 2011 at 1:31 AM.

Osama Bin Laden's death may be the most important event for the War on Terror since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
