Norfolk & Portsmouth. We departed Wormley Creek when we thought there was a break in the weather (based on forecasts), but we were a little early. The leg out of the York was pleasant enough. This fellow followed us out for a little ways…. Shortly after exiting the York, we were caught by a squall. We saw it coming and tried to run out of its way, but it caught us. Let’s see, we’re a 5kt boat. It’s a 30kt squall… Doing the math, carry the one…. You thought I was kidding, right? We’re staying put to...

We got a pumpout and departed Portsmouth at 0815 on Saturday. The Ocean Marine Yacht Service marina was just above “milestone zero” of the ICW. Final look at Portsmouth…. Weather was perfect for this part of the leg. Winds 8kts over the transom. Temp low 70s. Low humidity. Very pleasant beginning for the final leg. Approaching the first drawbridge, we ascertained that nobody can hear us on VHF, but we can hear them just fine. So, we pulled up closer and found a phone number to call…. Past the lock, you n...

We’ve been sitting here at the Ocean Marine Yacht Center on the Elizabeth River waiting for the weather to turn a little more stable before venturing down the ICW — unfamiliar and confined waters. Here’s what we’ve been watching — it finally came through this evening (radar depiction 2013 wunderground.com; map 2013 google.com). Rudi reports small craft advisory till about noon tomorrow, so we might be a little late getting out of here. Will evaluate options in the morning. June 14th, 2013. 12 Sep 09 Firs...

Welcome to Steve and Rudi’s excellent adventure with sailing vessel “Moor Fun,” a 34′ sloop-rigged catamaran manufactured by Performance Cruising, Inc. In Annapolis, MD. Yep, no kidding. Something is actually made in the good old USA. We opted for only a couple of minor modifications from Tony Smith’s outstanding concept. 8212; only one coat (vs. the standard 3) of teak oil (more info here. To install an inverter, a windlass, a DC outlet in the head and some cockpit lights. July 19th, 2008. With Moor Fun...

Wormley Creek, York River. Wormley Creek, York River. On the way in, we crossed some very shallow waters (marked on the map), which we would normally have made just fine. But, they were innundated with crab pots. We snagged one which brought the engine to an immediate halt. 8220;Moor Fun” at Wormley Creek Marina…. We spent two wet days there while Andrea did her thing. The marina was friendly and we just sat there reading and waiting for a break to continue south. June 11th, 2013. Select Post by Title.

We departed Slaughter Creek at a civilized hour and arrived Solomons in time for happy hour. Bärbel, Virginia and Charlie joined us, as did Felicia a little later. Just hanging out… Rudi invented a synthetic version of Orange Crush, which I have dubbed Orange Curse… Good conversation, good friends, good libations and vibrations. We won’t miss y’all because you WILL come see us at the Plantation. June 11th, 2013. Select Post by Title. Norfolk & Portsmouth. Wormley Creek, York River. 12 Sep 09 First Mishap.

Select a year under Archives to the right to see the most recent post of the year, or select one of the most recent posts from the drop-down control. We have cruised to the northern-most end of the Chesapeake (Sassafras River) to the middle of the Bay (Solomons Island). We have enjoyed nearly every place we’ve visited, and we have developed some favorites. Turner’s Creek small, secluded hole on the Sassafras. Like a time-machine.

Manufacturing quality is probably in the mid-range of pleasure-boat construction. Teak fit and finish is not bad, but not particularly impressive. Gelcoat crazing is a constant gripe within the Gemini owner community and prospective owners. Hardware is mostly very high quality (above average), and appropriate to the boat (with notable exceptions discussed in this website). We made these changes with certain overarching goals in mind:. Have minimal impact to the original design concept. And provision for ...
