Wednesday, November 15, 2006. There have been some things that I have wanted to mention about Kenyan culture for awhile and haven't gotten around to it. One of the most interesting things I have seen, mostly because it makes me reflect on my own culture, is that here, you often see women working on road crews. They are planting trees, doing paving work, shoveling stones.basically anything the men do. In the US I don't think I have EVER seen a woman doing roadwork. Why is that? Posted by Carrie @ 10:00 PM.

Saturday, July 29, 2006. So after two really long sleepless flights Jake and I have arrived in Nairobi. One knob turns the pressure and one is the tempurature in degrees, how awesome is that! When will America catch on? Then Jake and I went back to the airport. Jake and I walked around town a bit, we are staying at the Hotel Ambassador, which is right downtown. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Kalanguari Slums, Somali outfits. So today we went into our first slum. It was actually not as bad as I expected, the people were very very welcoming. We had about 50 kids following our group and holding our hands. It was so sweet! About her sewing business, she regesters with a company, gets fabric every month, then pays according to how many baby clothes, or other outfits she makes. She gets 10 shillings for every baby outfit (what she was making when we saw her). I am signed...

Thursday, December 14, 2006. We took the bus (yay for poor college students) for 900 shillings (8 hour bus ride) and got into Mombasa on Saturday night. Sunday we walked around old town (which is BEAUTIFUL) and sat at Fort Jesus watching the water and enjoying the sea breeze. Mombasa was hot as hell.
