November 7, 2013 at 8:44 pm. Too much of formal and informal discussion in society reflects this kind of battle between opposing forces. We are taught to “attack” another person’s argument, martialing all our evidence in order to “beat” the person with different points of view. November 7, 2013 at 9:06 pm. November 7, 2013 at 9:31 pm.

January 10, 2011. THE INGENIOUS WAYS WE AVOID BELIEVING IN CLIMATE CHANGE- A VIDEO PRESENTATION. George Marshall @ 12:35 pm. I post a video presentation that provides accessible (and hopefully entertaining) summary of current research into the psychology of climate change- in particular the key question explored by this blog: why it is so hard to accept? It covers a lot of ground in just 20 minutes and I hope that you enjoy it. Https:/ www.youtube.com/watch? Part One: Risk, Belief and Attention. Defining...

Not just bad weather...: February 2007
http://climatenews.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 27, 2007. Scientists issue first batch of key climate report. A milestone in climate science? A new report issued earlier this month by the IPCC said the scientific community is at least 90% certain humans are responsible for the problem. The Panel also made fresh predictions and clarified many uncertainties. The key issue now is whether a crucial temperature threshold risks being breached – and what to do about it. European Union (EU) climate change policy is based on a target agreed b...

Not just bad weather...: Still confused on climate science? Read this.
http://climatenews.blogspot.com/2007/05/still-confused-on-climate-science-read.html
Sunday, May 27, 2007. Still confused on climate science? A few days ago, on the networking site LinkedIN. Someone asked the question: do you believe in climate change? Of course, climate science is not a matter of beliefs of opinions. But I thought it would be worth answering the question, especially given that many of the users of the site, who also posted their answers, seemed a bit confused by the conflicting views they hear in the media. For those who are still feeling sceptical or "agnostic" about t...

Not just bad weather...: August 2005
http://climatenews.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 02, 2005. Thoughts from my holidays.part 1. Although most of the time I was simply enjoying myself and not thinking about environmental issues, several things that happened made me think. Especially after the massive blackouts they had in the past. Some people wanna drive, others don't want to, (or can't, because they are inexperienced, disabled, too young or too old, poor, or whatever). The first step in becoming more informal is to tell you about my holidays in my next post. Meanwhile, ...

Not just bad weather...: May 2005
http://climatenews.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 31, 2005. European Union plans tough efficiency targets. This reduction would cut energy consumption by 360 million tonnes of oil equivalent and yield financial savings of €60bn per year. This target would have to become part of Europe's competitiveness drive - the so-called Lisbon strategy. It would also greatly help achieve long-term climate policy plans. Other measures reccomended by the paper include encouraging companies to include a percentage of energy efficient cars in their fleets&#...

Climate Change Denial » DENIAL IS A CITY IN NEVADA

November 20, 2006. DENIAL IS A CITY IN NEVADA. George Marshall @ 2:50 pm. Welcome to our guest blogger, Professor Sue Roaf, expert in environmental architecture and passionate advocate of sustainability. Here is her postcard from Las Vegas- the heartland of denial. The city and neighbouring Clark County have a new hobby imploding buildings. They get an idea that a tower block is ‘sooooooo last year’ and blow it up. They have over $30 billion. Then there is water. Las Vegas already has barely enough water...

Not just bad weather...: Are carbon offsets a good idea or a con?
http://climatenews.blogspot.com/2007/06/are-carbon-offsets-good-idea-or-con.html
Monday, June 18, 2007. Are carbon offsets a good idea or a con? There’s been a lot of media coverage about offsets recently. A growing number of institutions, individuals and businesses are claiming that all or parts of their activities are being made "carbon neutral" through the purchase of carbon offsets. Is this true or is it a con? The UK’s Guardian has published this weekend an excellent investigation. What is a carbon offset? Are offsets related to the Kyoto Protocol? Partly, but not entirely. ...

Climate Change Denial » HOW THE CLIMATE CHANGE MESSENGERS BECAME BLAMED FOR THE FLOODS
http://climatedenial.org/2014/03/04/how-climate-change-messengers-become-blamed-for-the-floods
March 4, 2014. HOW THE CLIMATE CHANGE MESSENGERS BECAME BLAMED FOR THE FLOODS. George Marshall @ 3:04 pm. By COIN shows how rapidly media reporting of the recent UK storms degenerated into narratives of blame focused on environmentalists. The UK floods and storms of December 2013 and January 2014 were exceptional by any standards. In many parts of southern England January rainfall broke all monthly records and in some places being more than double the average. And the 2012 heatwaves. As discussed before ...
