Hand carved from wood

Intro - getting started. Friday, July 6, 2012. Not carving but pole latheing. I have just had a fantastic day with the wonderful (Essex based) Robin Fawcett, in his beautiful woodland workspace. Robin is a man that has spent his life working with wood especially the pole lathe. I n addition to being a great turner he is also a natural teacher. So when the opportunity came to spend a day "bashing wood" with him I leapt at the chance. Robin is a master of the understatement! The pleasure of using the pole ...

Hand carved from wood: 04/01/2011 - 05/01/2011

http://carvedfromwood.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Intro - getting started. Saturday, April 16, 2011. Tendonitis in my elbow caused by too much carving is stopping me carving the bigger projects so what to do instead? Duncan at Dorset Woodland Blades recently made me a pair of curved blades for working bowls and other deep objects, it would be nice to try something new when I make the handles for these. Note one blade is left handed the other is right handed. So here is my take on the Mocotaugan. Posted by Mark baigent. Monday, April 11, 2011. The tendon...

Intro - getting started. Monday, February 14, 2011. Better axe and new spoons. I have seen people using axes to rough out spoons etc, they made the blanks faster and neater than I could, why? The answer is that there are axes and there are axes. ie the old axe that I found in a shed or the Gransfors Bruks (GB) Swedish carving axe. So what to do with it, spoons I guess. A "windfall" of Birch meant I could head for the shed. A few days later I have new spoons ready to be oiled. Posted by Mark baigent.

Intro - getting started. Saturday, May 7, 2011. The issue I have with tendonitis is still making carving difficult so I am using my woodworking time in different ways. A visit to my local wood with some friends and excellent green wood workers gave me the opportunity to try making some furniture for my garden workshop. Making the bench left some offcuts so I made a chair, same principle but with the addition of a back fitted loose with a mortice and tenon. In the back :-). Posted by Mark baigent.

Intro - getting started. Tuesday, March 15, 2011. A Puukko woodcraft knife. In the previous post I made a knife by forging the blade under the instruction of James in his workshop. James Wood invited me back to make a Puukko. A Puukko is a traditional Scandinavian style woodcraft knife that is a very useful tool. After some research and a days work I had the knife finished and a sheath made for it. Posted by Mark baigent. Sunday, March 13, 2011. Tool making - first knife. There is a huge range of knives,...

Intro - getting started. Friday, June 8, 2012. A friend kindly gave me a maple log which had a few burr's. I removed the burr's. From the largest burr I carved a kuksa. The wood was difficult to carve with the grain changing direction a lot! Posted by Mark baigent. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Chiefs, bog, stargazer, watchmans, two plank chair. Hand carved Cherry bowl. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.
