not making: all the other stuff | carys davies porcelain
https://carysdavies.wordpress.com/2015/03/06/not-making
Not making: all the other stuff. March 6, 2015. There’s a myth that ‘artisans’ let alone ‘artists’ spend all their time making. Van Gogh, out every day sketching and painting. Gaugin, on his island paradise. No story is made more interesting by including the sordid details of haggling with the landlord, making the dinner, washing up (apart from Orwell’s Down and Out in Paris. Let alone writing to galleries, sending out images of work, etc. etc. He normally takes wedding pictures. And On the horizon.

April 17, 2015. Flatness is one of the new big things. In designing for the Internet. Flatness in art. Was one of the. In the 60s, championed by the critic Clement Greenberg. I quite fancy a return to the painterly, Poussin maybe. Or text, a la Twombly! I’ve been re-writing my own website. Let me know if you catch any mistakes. March 20, 2015. I’ve been loading up my web site with new images recently. It’s coded in html/css. So it means I can easily try new fonts, too. There’s a fashion in web design for a ‘flat’. Look As more people use smartphones or tables to look things up, websites need to work on touchscreens. This also means long menus don’t work, and you need more ‘buttons’, big enough for a finger to press. Nesta. Why is it important? Well, I talked last time. Back in the workshop I’m making more pots with large ...

textile seahorse: playing with collagraphs
http://textileseahorse.blogspot.com/2015/08/playing-with-collagraphs.html
Sunday, August 09, 2015. After constructing and sealing the collagraph plates, it was time to play this afternoon. I have been studying these extremely helpful books and following instructions. But there was still a certain amount of new technique anxiety. I ended up using drawing ink mixed with acrylic medium and did some test printing on cartridge paper, before moving onto khadi paper and some silk chiffon which worked beautifully. textile seahorse: Poetry Thursday
http://textileseahorse.blogspot.com/2015/08/poetry-thursday_13.html
Thursday, August 13, 2015. At the end were only words. The words survived our flesh. The you said, let it be dark,. And it was dark,. And I said as long as there. Are words we go on. There is no separating out. Speak in to the dark and it is good,. And we made a firm promise of. Those words, there will be no division. We took back the day and night. Undid our concepts of heaven and hell. Spun the day and the night back. Let us be dark, without image. No longer trying to see what is good. Aimer à loisir, .

Eve Howard’s Website. About Eve and her work. Flinders Island Workshop 1. Home now from the most glorious journey to Flinders where I was touched deeply by the spirit of the island . Juliet Macleod: studio potter. Thursday, 6 August, 2015. I spent last weekend at Potfest in the Pens. This was my second time at this wonderful show and marked the end of my first year of trading. It was a real pleasure to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. It’s been a great year with some real highlights…. I’m slowly increasing the number of fairs I do. The year has seen two Potfests (Scotland and Pens) and my first NEOS. We are just back from our annual fortnight in the Western Isles....
