Gravel mulch: I like to use stepping stone types of rocks vs. pebbles. Free and plentiful in the Rocky Mtns, maybe not in your area. Because they're flat, debris blows right off them. It seems a very conscientious neighbor of theirs called them to let them know that a few weeks ago there was a power outage in the area and that the grass and plants were dying.
