Peace Corps Post Script

Peace Corps Post Script. The continuing education of a itinerant Midwesterner. Friday, May 17, 2013. One thing we expected (with dread) was an early rainy season. Clouds gather daily now, though it isn’t raining that often just yet. It’s clear to everyone that the predictions of early, heavy rain are looking true. Another item to add to the worries list. Two bull headed people on the edge of having a break down that might include a wheelbarrow jousting match to the death. But for all of this, and for...

Peace Corps Post Script: January 2012

http://www.caseylynbartrem.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Peace Corps Post Script. The continuing education of a itinerant Midwesterner. Friday, January 13, 2012. In South Africa you'll often hear the phrase "we'll make a plan" in response to the general question: "what will we do? The running joke in Nigeria is that there is one thing that always works with our planning: What ever plan you lay out, any preparations you make, you can be damn sure that's the one thing that will not happen. Sunday, January 8, 2012. And on the street, dancers materialized with mor...

Peace Corps Post Script. The continuing education of a itinerant Midwesterner. Monday, June 27, 2011. The women in Yargalma, where we’ve started the assessment and advocacy work in earnest the past weeks, know me well; we spent 6 weeks there last year working 7 days a week in their homes, intruding into their lives. They ask “Is that Casey! 8221; – which are both true compared to the sorry condition I was in when I left Zamfara last July. Monday, June 20, 2011. In Zamfara, our responsibilities are divide...

Peace Corps Post Script. The continuing education of a itinerant Midwesterner. Friday, August 29, 2008. Round Two, Lesotho. Come February, my dear friend Pam wrote my a Valentine's Day poem that summed it up well:. Tomatoes are red, mororho is green. Sometimes Lesotho life makes me scream. Valentine's Day sucks, especially here. Eat lots of bread and drink a cold beer. Hope "work" is well; how is your tan? I'm still waiting for your visit to Mashai land.". Obviously I can't be finished here just yet.

Peace Corps Post Script. The continuing education of a itinerant Midwesterner. Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Plus I love to cook for them, especially when they bring me fresh food. AND, Chris wins favorite person of the month (in the running for person of the year) for bringing his solar shower for me to try out. It has a shower nozzle and everything and I've never bathed so many times in a single week. It's unbelievably hot water, too. Why did I not have this 16 months ago? It's like we could fall in!

Peace Corps Post Script. The continuing education of a itinerant Midwesterner. Monday, June 8, 2009. Cue the music. A fat lady? That circus jingle that I hear in my head nearly every day? Nah We'll go with an accordion. Cue "Leavin' on a Jet Plane" on the world's most out of place instrument. It's down to leaving. Or returning? Are the women working away at the wool and mohair or did some guy just ask me for sex? I'm not one for admitting defeat but I'd be a liar if I said I conquered PC, Lesotho, Ramaba...

From the Mountains of Idaho to the Mountains of Africa. A summary of my Peace Corps service in the mountainous kingdom of Lesotho. Sunday, June 14, 2009. My Basotho Me' gave me this hat as a going away gift. I believe its 3 different animals - it has 3 tails and 7 paws. Its a Basotho tradition to give a hat like this after major events in life like weddings, after building a home and moving back to America. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
