First night in coop - Portland Metro Area Chickens
http://pdx-chickens.livejournal.com/4046.html
Portland Metro Area Chickens. First night in coop. June 30th, 2009. The chicks spent their first night in the coop last night and they were all three still alive this morning! Last night, I put them up in the box. This morning, they were still up there and we were worried that they wouldn't figure out how to use the ladder. I was trying to gently nudge them to use it but my husband kind of pushed one down and the other two followed. I guess that's how it's done! 2009-06-30 05:13 pm (UTC).

Egg - Portland Metro Area Chickens
http://pdx-chickens.livejournal.com/3186.html
Portland Metro Area Chickens. June 2nd, 2009. I came home today to discover that one of my hens laid her very first egg! I don't know which one did it since they were all in the coop together, but it is a beautiful brown egg. 2009-06-03 02:45 pm (UTC). I'm totally jealous. Did you eat it yet? 2009-06-04 03:06 am (UTC). Nope, not yet, but it is on my agenda. Powered by LiveJournal.com.

Day Two - Portland Metro Area Chickens
http://pdx-chickens.livejournal.com/2915.html
Portland Metro Area Chickens. May 30th, 2009. We've finally gotten the temperature just right for the chicks. That has been more difficult than I would have imagined! So, more questions. Should we replace their wood shavings every day? And, can they be composted or should we even bother while they are so young? 2009-06-01 01:33 pm (UTC). Powered by LiveJournal.com.

Coop Arrived!! - Portland Metro Area Chickens
http://pdx-chickens.livejournal.com/2439.html
Portland Metro Area Chickens. May 27th, 2009. Our coop was delivered tonight by Jake and Aaron of Rose City Coops (you can find them on craigslist). In it's honor, I'm cooking up a chicken pot pie:). Friday, we are going to get chicks. We'd like to get Rhode Island Reds. Can anyone recommend a feed store out near Lake O? We're planning to hit up the one off of Stafford but would love to hear if anyone has a favorite and why! 2009-05-28 03:38 pm (UTC). Congrats on the coop! 2009-05-30 01:34 am (UTC).

Magic everywhere in this bitch! Its just there in the air. Any Portland peeps on my F list want to help me out this afternoon? Mar 15th, 2009 at 12:06 PM. As you may or may not know - I am moving out of one house into a new one and I need to clean the old one out today. Now, me being truly committed to slack, I can only go so fast, and I'm not that good at cleaning anyway. So in light of the fact that everyone's broke these days, who wants to make a quick $50 by helping me clean this afternoon?

Chicken Ladies of a Certain Age - Portland Metro Area Chickens
http://pdx-chickens.livejournal.com/4525.html
Portland Metro Area Chickens. Chicken Ladies of a Certain Age. July 26th, 2009. Those of you who've been keeping chickens for a while, what do you do when they get older? From what I've heard, domestic chickens can live 15 years but only lay well in the first 18 months. After that, the only economical thing to do is eat them. Is it legal to kill your own chickens within city limits? Can you really make yourself do it after a year or more of knowing/feeding/raising/laughing at her? I have my girls for pet...
