Making in the Library and iPads | My Summer of Making
https://amynvogel.wordpress.com/2014/07/14/making-in-the-library-and-ipads
My Summer of Making. Making in the Library and iPads. Two weeks ago I finally made the leap into the smart phone world and got myself an iPhone. I’ve been a bit obsessed with it ever since– I didn’t know apps could be so fun! But QR codes don’t hit at the best thing about iPads. QR codes are merely a discovery tool. iPads empower students to create and imagine. And as you know, my theme for the summer is making. A quick Google search for “iPads and the maker movement” fo...3 Third is extension, helping s...

My Summer of Making. I’m Not Ready. The earrings are done! They light up- some of the time. I think the battery’s not on there quite tight enough, but I haven’t figured out how to tighten it without undoing all my work so far. I’ve posted instructions on Instructables. Where they’re now a featured project. Maybe someone will try their hand at it and find a way to fix what I couldn’t. When my little brother was about 6, my mom tucked him into bed on New Year’s Day and told him, “Happy New Year! One respon...

By any other name? | A Maker in the Making
https://lbfasteland.wordpress.com/2014/07/11/by-any-other-name
A Maker in the Making. A Woman Working to Create Awesome. By any other name? July 11, 2014. First, a question to get us all started off. How many people have had to explain, in great detail, what we are exactly doing in this class this semester? When I first signed up for this class, I found that telling people what it was about was really difficult. I got a lot of weird looks and questions. Such questions included “why do librarians need to know that? 8221; and my personal favorite “seriously? ALA 2014&...

My Summer of Making. Bike handles with built-in super-bright headlight. Not entirely sure what this is, but I remember it runs on biofuels! There was a block-long line to go into and climb to the top of it. Floor that lights up when you step on it. Each block had weight sensors that controlled the lights. Robotic spirographs. We used to make art like this using tops when I was a kid. Now the robots make the art! Dress with fiber optics. Bike wheel with LEDs attached. Piano whose strings lit up when played.

Three Questions | My Summer of Making
https://amynvogel.wordpress.com/2014/06/20/three-questions
My Summer of Making. 8220;The world is filled with closet constructionists.”-Sylvia Martinez and Gary Stager in. We touched briefly on this week’s readings in class last night, but I saved my thoughts for a blog post as they’re rather lengthy. I’ve enjoyed the other books we’re reading, but. Invent to Learn (ITL). All of this leaves me with three questions:. 1 What role does the library and I play in their making? How can we get more involved and better serve the students and teachers on their projects?
