Castles in Cuenca

Monday, May 27, 2013. The scenery is outstanding and the animals are fearless (you can get very close to them, but NO TOUCHING! Here are a few photos out of the more than 1,000 that Gil took. Our Boat, the Yolita II. Our wonderful chef and his assistant. Our naturalist, Dario. Cute baby sea lion. Male frigate birds displaying to attract a mate with sea lion in back. Blue-footed boobie and her/his egg. You really can get this close and they have no fear. Nasca boobie, their feet are grey rather than blue.

Castles in Cuenca: December 2011

http://castles-in-cuenca.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 25, 2011. Merry Christmas to all of our friends and family! This is our second Christmas in Cuenca, and we love it more and more everyday. Christmas in Cuenca means fireworks and the Paseo del Nino Viajero - the big children's parade on Christmas Eve. The parade lasts 6-8 hours. This year, there were over 400 floats expected, plus dancers, horses, donkeys, etc. Here are a few pictures from this year's event. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Castles in Cuenca: April 2012

http://castles-in-cuenca.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 13, 2012. Snowbird friends, Harold and Julie, who spent last year's Minnesota winter in Cuenca, passed this winter in Peru. They invited us to come and do some exploring with them while they were there. So, we spent 10 days in Peru. Our first stop was Lima where we had great ceviche, saw Pachacamac - an ancient site that includes ruins from as far back as the Lima period and up through the Incas - visited "Lover's Park" and had an all around great time. Kicking up his heels in Lima. Cuzco i...

Castles in Cuenca: February 2013

http://castles-in-cuenca.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 28, 2013. We made our way out on Tuesday, (first taxi ride in two weeks - gotta get back on that horse! To go with Sonia to the gallery and home of artist Eduardo Segovia. As we were leaving, Sr. Segovia gave us a couple of flowers to take home with us out of his beautiful garden. The first one looks like a hummingbird, and he told us that it was one of his inspirations for some of his amazing pottery. Friday, February 15, 2013. Thank you to all of you who helped us in our time of need.

Castles in Cuenca: November 2011

http://castles-in-cuenca.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 2, 2011. Last week, we spent a couple of days with our friends Jerry and Rhonda in Vilcabamba. It's about a 4-1/2 hour drive from here and at approximately 5000 feet of altitude. So, it was nice and warm. Rhonda in front of her room overlooking the garden. This is the prettiest buzzard that any of us have ever seen. His head was just gorgeous. This ostrich did a mating dance aimed at the young woman standing there. Wedding announcements to follow. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Six Years...

Castles in Cuenca: March 2013

http://castles-in-cuenca.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 21, 2013. Last weekend we took a road trip to Riobamba and Banos with our good buddies Larry and Karen Schunk. This trip takes us along the "Avenue of the Volcanoes" heading north toward Quito. It's about a 4.5 hour drive from Cuenca. The countryside between here and Riobamba is just gorgeous. Here are a few pictures of the beautiful Ecuadorean countryside. Karen bought a hat for $13. Larry tried on hats. But they were all too small. We then had the good fortune to get a private tour of t...

Metamorphosis: Changing to Retirement in Ecuador. Sunday, September 30, 2012. Myth Busters - Cuenca. We're out and about a lot. Mick is at the Coffee Tree every day, with or without me and we're always amazed at the things they we overhear. Therefore, we thought we'd address some of them, myth busters - Cuenca. There are no dishwashers in Cuenca for less than $2000. Dishwashers are available here for around $500. Myth: Cuenca is the land of eternal spring. It may be an Alaskan eternal spring. Metamorphosis: Changing to Retirement in Ecuador. Sunday, October 16, 2011. Catching Up with Fiestas and Yungilla. It's amazing at the difference in the weather as the calendar flipped to October. We've had lots of warm temperatures and sunny skies. One day last week, there was a hale storm, followed by this beautiful rainbow. One night, there was Mexican by Joannie, ole'. We then went just down the street to Monay Shopping for coffee at El Espanol. There were lots of balloons. And gowns and costumes.

http://mickandkathy.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Metamorphosis: Changing to Retirement in Ecuador. Thursday, January 24, 2013. This month has been a fun month for us. We've done a bit of traveling around. Last week, we left Cuenca for the coast. Janet and David were with us. Our first night was in Guayaquil at the Marriott. Of course we dined at Noe at La Boca in Samborondon. I love the fountain there. In the garden was this little guy. You can't see it very well, but he has a red tail. Janet, David, Mick, and Nikolas. Janet taking pictures on the beach.

Pat and Sue - Exodus and Ecuador: February 2011

http://patandsuewoods.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Pat and Sue - Exodus and Ecuador. Saturday, February 26, 2011. Our New Digs in Cuenca. Front of the building (our building is the one toward the back) - It has a 24/7 security guard. We are the top floor in the back (the bump out is from the kitchen). The bedrooms are above that. Views across the street (note the island in the river- hence, the name "La Isla" for the building). Another view of the river. From across the river back toward the building (we are the one on the right toward the back). Tonight...

Pat and Sue - Exodus and Ecuador. Monday, April 18, 2011. The Countdown Has Begun! Well, the countdown has begun. We only have 5 days left. We have crossed off almost everything on our list. We even sold Pat's truck today which was one of the big things. I was SHOCKED as you can see:. I couldn't believe that they surprised us, and as you can read from before, we did not make it easy on them. We had a blast and some old and wonderful friends and family were there:. Co-workers from Semonin Realtors. And th...

Pat and Sue - Exodus and Ecuador. Saturday, June 16, 2012. Trip To/From Banos-Ambato #2. We went to Banos/Ambato last week for a week. We had a driver take us there and pick us up. We took some really nice pictures along the way- -both on the way there and on the way home. Here are a few pictures along the way:. This is the oldest church in Ecuador. It was established in August 1534 which is only 42 years after America was discovered by Columbus. It was still in really good shape. We were above the clouds.

Pat and Sue - Exodus and Ecuador. Thursday, June 14, 2012. Banos/Ambato Vacation at Luna Runtun #1. Last week Pat and I went to Banos (what we call "Big Banos" in Cuenca because there is a small community outside of Cuenca that is also called Banos). We had been trying to get there for the last year. There is a beautiful resort up on the hillside called Luna Runtun where we stayed. Check out a couple of shots as you walked out of our hotel room. 65279;Isn't that the coolest thing? June 15, 2012 at 8:11 AM.

http://patandsuewoods.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Pat and Sue - Exodus and Ecuador. Wednesday, November 16, 2011. This has been a VERY long process. We came to visit Ecuador for the first time last February and met with Gabriela Espinosa (an attorney in Quito) who was strongly recommended by several gringos to help us get our permanent (investor) visas. When we met with her in February, she told us that it would take around 30 days to get our visas. WELLwe finally got the call last week to come to Quito (AFTER they had our passports for almost 9 weeks!
