Madame Boisvert: A Beautiful Day on the Riviera

http://madameboisvert.blogspot.com/2009/05/beautiful-day-on-riviera.html

Wednesday, May 20, 2009. A Beautiful Day on the Riviera. Last Saturday the "weather gods” were with us as we left Port-Fréjus heading east to see more of la Côte d’Azur. And making our way to Cannes. The drive along the cliff road, la Corniche de l’Esterel. We were well aware that the yearly Festival de Cannes 2009. Was in full swing, meaning traffic and people galore. So we grabbed the first underground parking lot we could find near la Croisette. The crowds were enormous, especially as we neared. I hav...

Retirement merry go round: April 2009

http://retirement-merry-go-round.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Retirement merry go round. Sunday, April 26, 2009. Disa's balcony is pretty small, and narrow, only about 4" x 15" (1,20 m x 4.5 m), yet she has managed to arrange it so, that it allows for different activities: there is place for plants, a round table and a couple of chairs, a chaiselounge and even an electric grill. The plants, filling all the left over space, are my doing. We both love living al fresco, so this corner is when we have breakfast, lunch, sometimes dinner, read, write, talk. To increase t...

Madame Boisvert: Roman Orange

http://madameboisvert.blogspot.com/2009/05/visit-to-orange.html

Saturday, May 23, 2009. Since we still had the car last Monday, we decided to go see another of the big towns of the Vaucluse: Orange. The area has undergone tremendous transformations and hardships over the centuries. Originally settled by the Gauls, it became a Roman colony around the year 35 BCE. The city went on to be attacked and partially destroyed by the Visigoths in the fifth century. Its population was decimated by la peste. There is an Arc de Triomphe. Only in Syria and Turkey could you also fi...

Friday, February 27, 2009. When we were at the tourist bureau in Carpentras about a month ago, the young woman working there gave us a flyer of tours and lectures in and around the city. So, yesterday, on a beautiful day that was about 30 degrees warmer than on our last trip (now up to about 55 degrees F.), we caught the 1:00 bus in to town. On tap for Thursday the 26th was a tour of the synagogue— la syna. Which, like many French churches, has elements of construction from several different centuries.

Ruminations on life, death, and dreams. April 21, 2017. A few days ago I heard the news. I had known her since preschool but we had grown apart. I saw the Facebook posts start rolling in.
