Of moths and man (and other stuff): Recent offerings
http://mothsandman.blogspot.com/2015/07/recent-offerings.html
Of moths and man (and other stuff). Sunday, July 26, 2015. With the abysmal weather of the last few days and a mounting workload before summer holidays next week, natural history has taken a bit of a sideline. I have had the moth trap a couple of times which has resulted in three new species for the garden. Firstly, Lunar-spotted Pinion Cosmia pyralina,. Not one that was on my radar and threw me at first when i turned over the egg box. Not unsusal locally though apparently. View my complete profile.

Of moths and man (and other stuff): January 2015
http://mothsandman.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Of moths and man (and other stuff). Saturday, January 24, 2015. My first woodlouse.or is it? Well I say my first woodlouse, but in all honesty I've seen hundreds of the things it's just that I've never got round to trying to identifying one to species. So while laying a hedge and moving some bricks in the garden today I decided to pot a couple I found and sat down with a copy of the AIDGAP Woodlice book by Hopkins. Unsurprisingly, it keyed out as the rather common Oniscus asellus. Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Persistent Waxcap - Hygrocybe persistens. Inverkeithing, July 2015. Colours faded to dull orange in captivity. Gills barely, if at all, attached. A "robust", grassy feel. Aquaduct cut to check lamellae. Long, regular cell structure. Potato-ish spores with occasional constriction noted in FN. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Much Ado About Mothing. Wednesday, 22 July 2015. One for one - Hill of Beath Cabbage Moth, 21/07/2015. For the second time this year I have caught one moth in my garden and it has been a new hectad record. This time it's the turn of Cabbage Moth. When I got up at 4 to empty the trap it was very, very cold. By contrast I spent one hour with a headtorch at Mossmorran and recorded 15 species of macro - see later post. Much Ado About Mothing. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Cullaloe, 24/07/2015 (Pinion-streaked Snout). A nice list of 60 spp with TB, running three MVs and an acticnic heath trap. Sadly I forgot my camera so only weak phone cam pics available. Best of the night was a Pinion-streaked Snout, which I think is only the 3rd Fife record and a new hectad record. There were 12 new species for the reserve and a fair few for me. Com White Wave and Campion. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A walk in the park.

Myco Magic: March 2015
http://mycomagic.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 13 March 2015. Chesser, 12/03/2015 - "Couldn't be Jaapia". We started the evening with Gleocystidiellum porosum. Curiously - see last post! The gloeocystidia can be seen in the picture below:. Next up was the highlight of the evening - a tuberculate species on a saturated piece of wood (beech? Which also hosted various other things. In broader view the spores were mostly dismissed as asco spores, until closer (and retrospective) inspection. The final determination was Jaapia argillacea. Chesser, ...
