Speed Bumps: May 2003
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2003_05_01_archive.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. May 29, 2003. I've gotten into exotic dumping. Right now I'm camped out in the driveway of my empty house. It's for sale. I'm pretty comfortable. As a campsite it ain't bad, in the shade of the big elms, with the birds waking me up in the morning. There's 30A power, a laundry, and a shower just steps away. I'm getting a lot of reading done. I still have to mow the yard. Of course we all learn to celebrate the gifts that are native to us. While I was walking around the bloc...

Speed Bumps: December 2002
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2002_12_01_archive.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. December 17, 2002. Something Strange Is Going On Here. Today I did something very strange. I went to Sam's Club and bought a single pair of jeans. Is that weird or what? When the time comes, I don't think I'll need to renew my card. I'm a good shopper, in a sense. Really. Once I know what I want, I can usually get it wholesale. If you ever need a cheap transfusion, call me. I can make a turnip bleed. Just give me the type and Rh factor, and I'll get on it. The great thing ...

Speed Bumps: October 2001
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2001_10_01_archive.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. October 4, 2001. Home Is Just Another Camping Place. I started home by way of Creede, Summitville, Platoro. It is a desolately beautiful 60 mile drive up dirt roads from Southfork over Stony Pass down into Platoro. The road is rough but passable for my 27 foot fifth wheel. Four wheel drive is very useful to control the jittering wheels. It sits in an immense valley all by itself below Elwood Pass. At the Skyline Lodge in Platoro, I learned that the house is leased by t...

Speed Bumps: Email Me
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/p/email-me.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. I'd also like to hear from you in the comments. Though email is good. Unfortunately I don't have any fancy Java Applet for this. But it's pretty simple. If you don't hear from me for a couple of days, worry not. I am probably traveling, and not in range of a signal. As Arnie sez, "I'll be Bach". Just type/cut and paste: bobgid@hotmail.com into the address line of your email. So ring my chime. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). If You Liked Speed Bumps, Try Out Bob's New Blog:.

Speed Bumps: Let The Bumps Begin
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2007/10/hello-there.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. July 4, 2020. Let The Bumps Begin. Hello there. I'm Bob Giddings. The date above no doubt surprises. It's not procrastination, though I'm really good at that. I had to leave this in the future so you wouldn't get it late. Go figure. It all really started in early '01, when I bought a 5th wheel trailer and began making extended trips through the US and Canada. Since I retired from the Austin Fire Department in November '02, I've been living in it full time. Though I'd like ...

Speed Bumps: November 2002
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2002_11_01_archive.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. November 15, 2002. Living in the Driveway. I spent a lot of money in October and November of '02, after I got back from the Dakotas, on fixing the house in Georgetown up for sale. In fact, after new paint and texture, sheetrock work, and a roof, the darn thing was just too good to sell. Or so it seems. Pssst C'mere. Can you keep a secret? Come closer. Let me whisper a little something in your shell-like ear. You ready for this? No kidding. I wouldn't make stuff up.

Speed Bumps: June 2000

Things That Go Bump In The Day. June 18, 2000. The Letter That Started It All. Subject: The Boondocking Fulltimer. Newsgroups: rec.outdoors.rv-travel, alt.rv. Maybe you can help me. But there are problems. As a starting point, I divided the selection criteria into the Inside Life and the Outside life. As you might suspect there are a lot of conflicts between the two. I am trying to think this out carefully. I am trying to follow the Carpenter's Rule: measure many times, cut once. 4 GOOD braking system fo...

Speed Bumps: June 2003
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2003_06_01_archive.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. June 6, 2003. Okay, I've pretty much calmed down now. I've been sitting outside, drinking a meditative beer, watching a fine quarter moon move across the western sky. I'm not lunatic enough at the moment to know whether it's waning or waxing. I'm afraid I used up all the lunacy available to me this afternoon, installing my new sewage pump. I couldn't see a safe way to permanently mount it to the trailer, so I used a scrap piece of wire shelving for a portable platform.

Speed Bumps: March 2003
http://speedbumpsbob.blogspot.com/2003_03_01_archive.html
Things That Go Bump In The Day. March 19, 2003. I have been sitting too long in my driveway. I've been here since November, selling one house and trying to sell another, treading water ambivalently while the last slim umbilical to my former life falls away. It's not bad. I've had a chance to make small improvements in furniture and equipment, and I'm getting used to the size of the trailer. Trying to relax. What am I relaxing from? What am I relaxing into? Daydreaming about retirement used to center on t...
