About me - CatherineHanley.co.uk
http://www.catherinehanley.co.uk/about
So what do you want to know? I'd probably give different answers on different days. When I'm watching cricket I support Somerset. Australia and Tasmania, in that order, so I guess that probably gives a bit of a clue when I'm trying to sort out my identity. But I'm also fascinated by the stuff you can't really find out from books - the little matters of everyday life, the "how-did-they-do-that" things. I worked for a while at the Danelaw Dark-Age Village.
Favourite books - CatherineHanley.co.uk
http://www.catherinehanley.co.uk/home/favourite-books
I like to read stuff from a number of genres. In the field of crime, it’s hard to find better out-and-out whodunits than those written by the great Agatha Christie. It’s probably a bit unfashionable of me to admit to being such a fan, but there’s a reason why she’s one of the best-selling writers in history, you know! And set in fourteenth-century Cambridge. The depiction of the city is so vivid that you can almost smell it. If you’ve never read The Sunne in Splendour. Go and get hold of a copy now.
Historical background - CatherineHanley.co.uk

I thought it might be useful to put a few interesting bits of background here, so I'll try to write up some short pieces on various historical topics which are related to my books. The newest ones are at the top. Quelques pages sont aussi disponibles en français. When we read about the Middle Ages we hear a lot about knights and how they fought. But what does armour look like and how does the knight put it on? Here's a guide on arming a knight in the thirteenth century. Is set in and around Lincoln. ...

Q Nan, you read an incredible amount and yet you are virtually blind. How do you do this? Nevertheless, I mostly rely on digital talking books, audiobooks, and my Kindle 2. The Bookreader can read anything, but it is a tedious and labor intensive process, so it is not my first choice. A I can see, just not detail. I am also artisti...

Click on the 'Free Books' tab below. Saturday, August 28, 2010. This excerpt is from The Demon's Parchment. Charing Cross stood rigid in the icy cold of the crossroads. Its cross and steps were snowcapped and solemn. Jack’s admonishment kept preying on Crispin’s mind: You’re taking money from a Jew? Was he that desperate? And where the women? He glanced down at his own seedy coat and the sturdy cloak that hid its shabby appearance from view. Yes, that was a long time ago. Flurries arrived with the waning...

Click on the 'Free Books' tab below. Friday, September 3, 2010. Here’s another passage from one of Jen Black's books, Dark Pool. Simple question, where is Lord Sitric's hearth-hall? Last time we ran an excerpt from one of Jen's books we made it far to easy, so no clues this time. Finlay glanced around. "It's not the hangings," he said, staring at Sitric's huge personal banner in the middle of the long wall. "He's pinned the sun to the wall. Look.". Click 'comment' below to give your answer. A tale of bravery, love and hope set in Spain and the Mediterranean in the closing stages of Julius Caesar's civil war. The sort of book that ought to be romping up the historical fiction charts but has just about got a toe-hold thus far. Written by me, Alistair Forrest. Nuff said. First, read this excerpt and answer the simple question below. Then,. Growled and spat a plume of bla...
