Departing from the Script: July 2014

Departing from the Script. Friday, July 25, 2014. Lone, Rocky and Balsam Cap - 2014-07-19/21. I'd been meaning to hike the Bushwhack Range (Lone, Rocky, Balsam Cap, Friday) for some time, but going to somewhere that remote as a solo hiker is beyond my risk tolerance. On July 19, I finally got my wish, as my hiking buddy Sarcasm the Elf agreed to give it a whack (no pun intended). (Well, maybe intended just a little bit! We turned off a little bit past the brook, and started up the northwest spur of Lone.

http://scatterbone.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 28, 2012. SHREWSBURY PEAK VT 35'ER (The "Exploring Vermont" Hike). I continued on as the trail gradually climbed up through a deciduous forest. I came upon a lot of moose sign along the trail. The wildflowers (White Violet, Painted Trillium, Purple Trillium) were also a nice diversion along the way as the trail steepened and entered into the evergreens . As I neared the summit there was all evergreens and the terrain became steeper. And after a little searching a little nicer view East. On th...

Monday, June 18, 2012. THE VERMONT PRESIDENTIALS VT-35ers (The "Busted Toe-Nail and Spiral Chimney" Hike). We ascended quickly to the junction of the Long Trail. At the junction we encountered a weary but determined Long Trail thru-hiker with duct tape on his boots. A short distance from the junction was the Cooley Glen Shelter. We headed back south along the Long Trail enjoying a pleasant ridgeline atmosphere full of balsam trees and afternoon breezes. We headed down to the Emily Proctor Shelter where w...
