8 REASONS WHY CHRISTCHURCH HAS A PROBLEM WITH. ABANDONED AND NEGLECTED CATS. Cats are prolific breeders. One female can be responsible for 3200 offspring during her lifetime. Desexing is expensive. Over $80 for a male and over $120 for a female. Owners are irresponsible. They have more cats than they can afford to feed or desex. Housing N.Z. do not limit the number of neglected cats their tenants can keep. The Christchurch City Council revoked their bylaw on keeping cats. It is easier to do nothing.

If you have found or know of an injured cat/kitten please do the following:. Report the cat to the SPCA 349-7057 or their after hours emergency number 366-3886. If the SPCA decline to help, please take the cat to your nearest vet or afterhours surgery. Relinquish the cat into their care. You are not obliged to pay for the cats treatment. 160; As the cat becomes the responsibility of the SPCA once relinquished into the vets care. If you need a trapping cage please go to Shelter and Rescue Groups.

The Humane Society of the United States estimates that there are over 70,000 puppies and kittens born every twenty-four hours. The sad fact is that just is not possible to place them all. Every year over 20 million animals end up in a shelter. Over 15 million of them are killed. Of those animals 61% of the dogs and 75% of the cats are killed.
