Ferdiad: April 2010

Thursday, 15 April 2010. This blog now consists of 25% recycled material. I found an article I wrote in 2002 when I was a member of Caer Clud, a druidry group full of mirth and companionship that inspired me and was a cruicible for many things. But everything has its season and Caer Clud has now, in the words of one of the co-founders,"faded into the mists". It’s much more fun to do it outside. Or maybe I just enjoy going out and getting myself muddy from time to time. Because I can, because I want to.

Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Back to my roots. 8230;and this year it has only stirred me enough to blow the dust from my bookjacket. Maybe it is the city I live in or maybe it is the six-day week I work. Maybe I’m just not making time for connection anymore. Like the friend you keep meaning to call and then feel more awkward with each passing day that you don’t. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ferdiad: Clearing
http://manofsmoke.blogspot.com/2014/06/clearing.html
Sunday, 15 June 2014. In a clearing in the middle of the deep greenwood sits a man in a patch of dappled sunlight, careless of his simple robe, cross-legged and barefoot on the forest floor. Around him are arrayed books and journals, alongside a burlap satchel containing an assortment of curious items he has gathered along his way. From time to time he looks up, reaches out to select a new journal, swimming through the lines and words, bathing in the pools and currents of these memories. Satisfied with h...

Building blocks of Life. Patron Goddess of this place. Cooking up a tasty life. Workshops and shamanic practice. It burns again. In addition, I also honour the shadow that is cast by that fire, because all things in Nature have their counterpoint for balance. One story tells of the birth of Brighid. She was born at sunrise and her mother was standing in the doorway, with one foot inside and one foot outside the house. Immediately, her head was surrounded by fire. Brighid's mantle covers and protects the ...

We are all connected. When we become conscious of the gifts we give and receive, our connections become magical. Will you make this magic with me? This world is amazing. The colours of flowers and autumn leaves. The sky, always changing. Birds singing their hearts out at the sunrise. Squirrels chasing each other through the trees. And all those people and animals and plants in endless variety. Never two the same. Don’t you just love it? If you do, you Read More . A window to see the world. I really don&#...

Golden Thread and Other Material. Just another WordPress.com site. October 26, 2010. There’s a genre of cloely imagined, well researched historical fiction that I find irresistible. Mary Renault and Rosemary Sutcliffe come to mind. Mary Renault is notable for her books about Ancient Greece, both mythic and historical. In particular I remember Renault’s The Bull from the Sea and its sequels, about Theseus and the legend of the minotaur and her books about Alexander the Great –. The Eagle of the Ninth.

Building blocks of Life. Patron Goddess of this place. Cooking up a tasty life. Workshops and shamanic practice. Next time you have a sandwich or a piece of toast, stop and think for a minute. Where did that bread come from? Then stones of Earth ground it into flour. The flour was mixed with some Water and some fat. Yeast made bubbles of Air in the dough. Then it was baked in a Fiery hot oven. And Spirit permeates it all: the flour, the water, the baker kneading. Is light and young. It dances and fli...
