Caution to the Wind

Caution to the Wind. Adventure journal and random thoughts of frick. Wednesday, March 01, 2006. I originally posted this on my shared weekly essay blog. But I thought it warranted being repeated here. Well, it’s Wednesday again. This isn’t just any Wednesday though, it’s a special Wednesday. This is the Wednesday when I actually post on essay on time, with good grammar, proper spelling, and maybe even a dash of wit. Its six hours later, and my stomach still hurts. (I did consider driving to work, whi...

Caution to the Wind: 2005-01-16

http://cautiontothewind.blogspot.com/2005_01_16_archive.html

Caution to the Wind. Adventure journal and random thoughts of frick. Monday, January 17, 2005. Cathedral Cove, and Hot water Beach: Hahei, New Zealand. Beach by parking lot. Starting up the trail. Protected from the sun, which she apparently doesn't see much. Just look at that stomach! Cute, but white, very white. Trying to climb a crack in the arch. That's as far as I got though. Back on the trail. Flowers, and they're even blue. I dug a whole out. Posted by Frick at 10:19 PM. Sunday, January 16, 2005.

Caution to the Wind: Everyone else is doing it, so why can't I?

http://cautiontothewind.blogspot.com/2005/11/everyone-else-is-doing-it-so-why-cant.html

Caution to the Wind. Adventure journal and random thoughts of frick. Wednesday, November 30, 2005. Everyone else is doing it, so why can't I? I'm jumping on the blogwagon, and putting in my two cents on the two Slate ariticles about biking that are making noise on the blogsphere. A bad article would look at cycling through the eyes of a driver, only seeing how its impossible to maintain habits they think are necessary while riding a bike. You'll be outcast from society? Nobody bikes in LA. Use the first ...

Caution to the Wind: Burn blowers, not books

http://cautiontothewind.blogspot.com/2005/12/burn-blowers-not-books.html

Caution to the Wind. Adventure journal and random thoughts of frick. Friday, December 02, 2005. Burn blowers, not books. Leaf blowers should be outlawed. Plain and simple. Have a big party in the middle of town, gather up all the leaf blowers, throw them in a pile, and light them up. We could make it a fall celebration. Anyway, back to leaf blowers. I don’t think a leaf blower has any positives. Raking leaves is not that hard! Posted by Frick at 11:38 AM. Rule #1: People are dumb. This blog is mainly abo...

Thursday, January 13, 2005. I mean, when does that button begin to look enticing? And just how incredibly lazy have we as a species become? Why don't more people scoff at those button? So, I'm a bit of a hypocrite today, but I really want to minimize stress on this rib in any way possible. Also trying to minimize laughing, sneezing, or coughing. Ugh. Posted by equipoise at 1:37 PM. Sunday, November 28, 2004. Thanksgiving by the numbers. 10 kids (run amok). 3 dogs (not on the menu). 1 bottle of moonshine. That night, my sis (who is now a high-powered attorney, but still bike-commutes) and I stayed up chatting until like 2am which was quite fun. Too bad my brother didn't make the journey from AZ to join in on the Thanksgiving fun. Can't say I blame him for staying home. Posted by equipoise at 9:21 PM. Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Den of Awkwardness: 05/01/2005 - 06/01/2005

http://denofawkwardness.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 31, 2005. Wind: never at our back almost always a direct headwind. Gave my bike a boost as I trudged up the incline. At one point, the cry of "Hole" came too late, only to be followed by thumping and the simultaneous hissing of air and "Shit! 46 Miles, post critical mass. But then we got on the limestone Illinois and Michigan Canal State Trail and took off. We rode basically in one or two clumps, two abreast for many (25? Scooters and mini-bikes. What. The. Fuck. People had fucking TVs!

http://denofawkwardness.blogspot.com/2006/10/stabled-mounts-cta-911-i-wonder-if-he.html

Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Stabled Mounts; CTA; 911: I Wonder if He will Run me Over? Friday night was the University of Illinois Chicago annual bicycle scavenger hunt. Jonathan, his brother Ben and I were a team. Based on the format last year, I didn’t expect to be competitive (lots of ‘clues’ that were more befuddling than enlightening). We heard a rumor that cargo capacity would be damn helpful, so Ben brought a 6’ fresh air trailer, and I took the Bianchi with his rack and biggest panniers. Anyway, b...

Den of Awkwardness: Blood Donation

http://denofawkwardness.blogspot.com/2006/06/blood-donation.html

Wednesday, June 28, 2006. I had to leave my friends at the Farmers’ Market early in the morning for an appointment to donate blood. On the way downtown it started raining buckets. This route takes me through the most tourist/yuppie/cabbie infested part of town and is no fun to get through. Today though, the drivers were very nice and gave me my space. Sympathetic because of the rain possibly? Whatever the reason is was very nice to not have impatient drivers in addition to my sogginess. Down here in Aust...

Den of Awkwardness: Police Torture Probe

http://denofawkwardness.blogspot.com/2006/07/police-torture-probe.html

Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Today we released our report on Police Brutality in Chicago. This is the project that I have spent the most time on at my job. Check your newspaper for more information. The final report is new to me also - so now I get to paw through it to find the passages that I wrote. In other news, I have been super busy. The last several weekends have been spent out of town:. Hilly Wisconsin bike-camping tour over the weekend of July 4;. Visit to Minneapolis the weekend of July 8;. If you ...

Wednesday, June 29, 2005. I have never been good at ignoring itches: I simply must scratch. I have a few chicken-pox scars from kindergarten because I scratched them. Mosquito bites also must be scratched until my skin is red and the bites have swelled many times their original size. The rash/saddle soreness caused by my underpant band on my sitbones is healing nicely. This is good- except for the fact that it itches like crazy. I've been scratching my ass all day. Den of Awkwardness: Happy Birthday Jonathan!

http://denofawkwardness.blogspot.com/2006/10/happy-birthday-jonathan.html

Tuesday, October 17, 2006. I officially became a Board Member of Chicago's bike advocacy group last week. I haven't even ridden past the disabled Dork Bike - I must stop being lazy and get her home soon! I'm feeling more comfortable on the Julep - enough so that I rode her home from work in high heels twice last week. She needs some maintenance, though - her tires are mushy and there is a creaky/crunchy noise coming from bottom bracket/drive train. I hate my job and have been having bad dreams about it.

Monday, October 02, 2006. A requested Update.the Julep Rides Again. Life has been busy.work still sucks.and time marches onward. This Sunday I was pretty productive I did ALL of my laundry and consequently cleaned up my hellpit of a bedroom. There not only is a floor now, but it is also swept and clean. Then I stripped my fading basil plants of most of their leaves and made my winter supply of pesto. On Sunday, Jonathan and I wrestled with the flat tire and finally got it fixed. Den of Awkwardness: Happy Anniversary!

http://denofawkwardness.blogspot.com/2006/10/happy-anniversary.html

Wednesday, October 04, 2006. BUT, it is also marks the second year anniversary of being a full-fledged, year-round, Chicago bike commuter. Yeah! In the summer of 2001, I began bike commuting from Uptown, Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul. However, two years ago was when I started my first job in Chicago and had my first commute in Chicago (the half-mile walk to law school doesn’t count as a ‘commute’). I can’t wait to see what changes the next two years bring! Posted by jojo @ 1:49 PM. Bike Dance. Boat.

CAUTION THINKING

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. To facilitate gaming in my elaborate Erul-Iton D&D setting. Eric, Rob and I rocked a plain Ikea table into a gaming platform. First, we sanded, primed, and sprayed it down with chalkboard paint. Using 1 inch wide masking tape, we laid out half of the grid by leaving the tiniest space possible between the strips. We left a few inches around the outside for note-taking, arrow-tallying, Munchkin level-marking, and the like, and sprayed it down with white paint. The exact opposite was ...

Barbara used to call my friends and I ‘The Deadbeat Club’ after that B52s song that came out my freshman year of high school. That was the year I moved to Sebastopol from Vermont and finally found my freaks, my place in the social order of childhood. Or I should say, my place of not being constantly harassed for being gay, having gay moms, and being on welfare. Just past the back door of Copperfield’s is the back of the Greek diner where I had my first over the table job as a dishwasher at fifteen. Durin...
