The initial operations base for the expedition will be the village of Fogoma’iu. This is a small population centre located surrounded by the rainforests of the Southern Highlands. This is a reconnaissance caving expedition to an unexplored limestone region. Our team will explore the areas immediately south of the village of Fogoma’iu at first. We will rely on the help of locals to find entrances. As the expedition progresses, camp will move away from the village and closer to the more interesting caving areas. The Rainforest and Jungle Camps. With its high humidity and temperature, walking through the Rainforest can be hard work. The ‘Main Roads’ connecting the villages and huts in the middle of the jungle are, in reality, nothing more than small jungle tracks. During our 4 and 7 day hikes, we had several campsites.
